It's so difficult to deal with procrastination when you don't know what is the reason for your procrastination.
They will say, the only problem is the lack of time management and plan.
However, according to the study of Oxford Learning, dealing with procrastination is not because of the lack of discipline of time but because of stress and over thinking that links to the fear of rejection and perfectionism.
Why? Because when we overthink or stress we forgot what we should do. Our first ideas will be fudged with complicated ideas.
So I will list how to deal with our procrastination.
To avoid procrastination:
1. Don't be too perfectionist
if we are perfectionists our work or task will take much time to finish. Because we aren't content with simple tasks we tend to add it more. It's good to improve our work but too much perfectionism will add to your procrastination. Then we end up we are tired of adding too much then end up not finishing it.
2. Make a simple to do list
When we jot down our to do list we will not forget our works or tasks. It will reduce our stress when we see our task finish. However, make your task simple, don't complicate it. Be realistic with your to do list.
3. Don't be too active in social media
When we are so very active on social media we end up forgetting our task. Sometimes we forget our studies. We spend a lot of time on social media because social media is addictive. So you need to be cautious about using social media. My suggestion, make it one hour or thirty minutes using social media at night. You can use it on weekends too so you will not be distracted. Unless you are an online seller, then you need to be active on social media.
4. Make a time for Exercise and Meditation
Exercise is not just good for the body but for your mental health also. While meditation is to make you focus. These will help you to be stress free and to gain concentration.. When you’re stressed your mind will overthink and search for a happy pill, those are social media and food. Then you make an excuse again not to do your task because you are not in the mood to make your task again.
5. Seven hours sleep
Seven hours of sleep is enough to gain your energy for tomorrow. When you have a good sleep you are in a good mood to do your task. You don’t feel irritated and lazy.
Another Reason To Procrastinate:
Lost of Interest
Actually, negativity triggers procrastinators to procrastinate more. There are times that they will easily give up on their task because it will cover up with negativity that maybe what they are doing is not good enough. Many negative things that give them reason to give up. Then they will lose their interest in the task they are doing.
Manana Habit
This kind of habit is very common for many Filipino students who do cramming. They have this kind of thinking that “I will just do it later, I have a long time to do it anyway.” Then the time of deadline. They will do cramming to do their tasks.
Perfectionism
When you have a fear of rejection you tend to be perfectionist. So you want to analyze first your plan to do your task. Then while you do your task your ideas will pop up to complicate your task. Then end up to procrastinate more.
