As defined by the Marriam- Webster dictionary, A secret is something kept from the knowledge of others or shared only confidentially with a few.

I really have no pertinent reason for choosing this topic this evening but somehow its just there at the surface of my mind and what better way to come up with an article than talk about what one's mind is on.

As much as I'm going to be on the do not keep secrets line today, sadly I myself have kept a few and I can say that it wasn't easy nor nice.

Frankly, the truth is the only thing that can bring peace and I one hundred percent support truth telling anytime anywhere.

Talking from or should I say writing from experience, I have been there and I've seen that keeping secrets is one of the most disturbing things that one could get involved in.

On a bright and beautiful day where all other people are having fun and going about their day, thoughts of that secret of yours getting out may just flash to your mind and that's all needed to ruin your day. Absent mindedness kicks in and you begin to second guess everyone in your life for fear of that thing that you're hiding getting out.

On no occasion should anyone put themselves through this life of constant lies to cover up one's track or unnecessary anxiety just to keep something that will one day be found.

"Three may keep a secret, if two of them are dead." - Benjamin Franklin

You know how we say " it's just me and two of my friends that are aware of what happened and we swore to take it to our grave". Th above statement is simply proof that it will end up coming out eventually cos the moment another person other than you is aware, forget it cos it's out the moment you told.

Why Do We Keep Secrets?

Some people say that what they've done is too grave and would end up hurting the people they care about so they'd rather keep it to themselves and begin to tell lies upon lies upon lies.

Others are simply scared of the punishment that will follow either from their partner or their parents or whoever wields the sword of punishment.

For most people in relationships, they hide their past and begin to paint brighter and more attractive pictures of them that blindfold the partner that they claim to love all because they are scared of losing them and all that they've built together.

There are those who hide things just for social acceptance cos if the truth ever got out, they would lose the friends they have as well as the privileges that come with them.

Is It Worth It?

Really, the truth is that it's not worth it at all. Coming out plain no matter the circumstance is the best now and will remain the best option till Jesus comes.

Do we have secrets? Yes! Do we have to kill ourselves keeping them? No, we don't! The truth remains the freedom giver, now till forever.

Most times, when the secret is out you'd find out that it was not as bad as you thought it would be and that you have been imprisoning yourself all this while or it could have been worse than you thought. Whatever the case maybe, it's better to let it out!

Author's Epilogue

Today was rather quiet and productive day for me. I did a lot writing and a little reading.

It's the fourth month of the year and I'm still in my first book which I have not even come close to completing. I better start burning that reading oil.
