When there is an injury somewhere in our body, the body's immune system releases some chemical called "Autacoids". This causes pain, swelling and increase in temperature at the place of injury. This is called fever.

The function of the hypothalamus in our brain is to regulate body temperature. Our body secretes an autacoid called "dinoprostone" to work against the germs. Body temperature rises when the amount of dinoprostone in the hypothalamus increases.

If you want to reduce the fever, you have to stop making two enzymes called COX-2 and mPGES-1. The paracetamol or aspirin that we take prevents the production of two enzymes in our blood. Only then the body temperature starts to decrease.
