Club1BCH Fantasy Premier League Week 6 Review

Another round of games, and yet another round of contentious officiating decisions. I've always said wrong officiating will even out for all teams in the long run, but with increased technological involvement these irregularities shouldn't be as regular as we are still experiencing. Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United had opponent goals chalked off in their favour. Are those decisions the right ones? 

Well, we'll save the arguments about Mendy's theatrical displays and maybe Odegaard's foul on Eriksen is too soft or not for another time. The topic of discussion here is how FPL sucker punched most managers, bringing them crashing heavily after the euphoria of game-week 5. For starters, there was a 17 point swing in the average points of week 5 and 6. That tells one story. Just five teams managed a clean sheet, that tells another. So, to the games review.

Everton 0:0 Liverpool

Only the managers with Alisson and Van Dijk in their teams enjoyed this one. Arnold was hooked two minutes away from the 60 point mark that would've assured clean sheet points. Robertson was dropped for Tsimikas, and then brought in to play for a solitary point. Liverpool's attack were busy trying to outdo each other in a crossbar/ goal post challenge when they should be tucking in the ball. A very frustrating start to the week.

Now, to the hard part. It's time for reflection here. Of the six games played so far Arnold (£7.5) has 24 points, 17 of those were accumulated in the 9-0 drubbing of Bournemouth. He's dropped 1,3,0,2,1 points in the other weeks. Robertson (£6.8) scored 9 points against Bournemouth. He's had 1,2,1,2,1 points in the other games. Are these binary guys worth keeping?

Another one that is hard to look past is Salah, the most expensive dude in EPL. He's blanked in three of the six games played so far. This guy is an explosive dude, but he's not doing justice to his hefty price tag at the moment. Stick or twist?

Brentford 5:2 Leeds

If you own Ivan Toney you're definitely smiling right now. And if you're one of the less fortunate ones who ditched him some few hours to deadline you definitely don't want to see this. The big guy did a good job of twisting the knife, too.

Rodrigo's untimely injury means we are robbed of this season's FPL MVP so far. Sinisterra did well with a goal, but a lot is not known. Patrick Bamford played 45 minutes as he continues his reintegration after a long injury layoff. A lot of unknowns in this one. As for Toney, about 300k managers already drafted him in. He's produced five goals and two assists in 6 games this season. That's a decent output for a £7.2 striker. 

Chelsea 2:1 West Ham

Another game that left many FPL managers frustrated. Chelsea conceded, James got a yellow card, but, the story is Ben Chilwell. This dude dropped 10 points in 18 minutes. Impressive, right? However, he's only started one of 6 games, starting against Everton on week 1. Since Cucurella joined Chelsea, Chilwell has played second fiddle to him. And, on the look of things, his cameo from the bench is not ending yet. The return of the Champions League may prove me wrong.

Newcastle 0:0 Crystal Palace

If you still do not own Kieran Trippier at this point you're definitely living under the rocks (And, still, I do not have him in my team). What else do you want? A £5.2 defender has dropped three clean sheets, one goal and four bonus points in six games. He plays free kicks and corners, and has an unbelievable swing on the ball from deep. It's only a matter of time before he starts racking up assists too. Maybe you'll consider getting him in when he's £5.5.

Another noteworthy mention is Nick Pope with nine saves. Common, that's a lot of saves! The dude is just £5.1 and topping the goalkeepers chart right now. He's got the struggling West Ham, Bournemouth, Fulham and Brentford in the next four games. If you don't love Trippier, you gotta love Pope. You might as well keep your premium defenders and continue to rack up binary scores in defence. As for another FPL darling, Zaha, he had one of those games when things just didn't go his way. With Man U, Brighton and Chelsea to come next, only the brave ones will be considering Palace assets right now. However, Zaha is one of those guys who can create something out of nothing.

Nottingham Forest 2:3 Bournemouth

Though it's only six games, I couldn't shake off the feeling that this game was a relegation dogfight. And, considering what these two are doing right now, I'll be shocked if both of them are not back in the Championship when this season ends. At least, Forest will learn some serious lessons on how not to run a club. Bournemouth looks like a well run team, but already sacked a manager this season. 

The only noteworthy mention from this is the £5.7 Solanke with a goal, an assist and three bonus points for a 12 point haul. He's started the last two games since Parker got fired having only previously started in the 2-0 week 1 win against Aston Villa with Parker. Bournemouth has arguably the best fixtures in the next 10 games. Watch him. As for FPL budget defender Neco Williams, he dropped his first assist and got 4 points. Not too bad for a £4.1 rated defender. He's played every single minute of this season too, so he's a valuable 5th defender in 2.8 million teams.

Spurs 2:1 Fulham

Richarlison finally gets to start a game, Kulusevski the fall guy. The Brazilian boosted his chances with an assist to Booth. But, what is going on with Son? After dropping an assist in week 1, he's blanked ever since. Still at a hefty £11.7 (dropped from £12), this is unbelievable. Conte has done incredibly well to stick with the Korean, but for how long? Despite his terrible form, Conte showed him unwavering support by playing Richarlison in the right of attack despite the Brazilian being at his best from the left, a position Son occupies. 

As for the ever reliable Harry Kane, not much to say about the dude any longer. Five goals, 1 assist, 9 bonus points tells the whole story. The only problem is pairing him in attack with a certain Man City dude. Mitrovic though, you just can't overlook this guy anymore. He's tallied 6 goals and 7 bonus points so far, only failing to score in the 0-0 draw at Wolves. Scored against Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham; this guy is fixture proof.

Wolves 1:0 Southampton

Not much to say about these ones. Wolves continued to struggle in front of goal; Southampton ran like headless chickens all over the football field with nothing to show. Daniel Podence at £5.5 is the go to guy for Wolves. He's scored two out of their total three goals - those guys have a chronic problem in attack. On the flip side, they've kept three clean sheets. So, Nathan Collins at £4.5 is definitely not out of the question. He's played all available minutes and has 6 bonus points to match.

Aston Villa 1:1 Man City

Villa shocked us all by nicking a point off City, spoiling Cancelo's clean sheet in the process. Haaland does his thing once again, scoring goal number 10. Will the return of the Champions League affect the guy's minutes? That's a question for Mr. Guardiola. For now, Haaland is a must have. He sits in 7.7 million squads. Those 2.5 million managers without him are either living in a cave or have lost interest in the game. Leon Bailey (£4.7) notched his second attacking point of the season. He's started the last two games also.

Brighton 5:2 Leicester

Really, how low can Leicester go? They are already at the lowest of lows in the EPL (1 point, 20th on the log). Surely, they can't be relegated. Right? As far as FPL is concerned, Leicester is dead right now. Brighton, what a game? And if you don't know the dude called Mac Allister right now, you don't know nothing. A £5.6 midfielder with 24 points in the last two games, if he keeps this up he'll be £6.0 in no time. And, Groß? I don't even need to blow his trumpet. Just so you know, he's £6.0 and the highest scoring midfielder right now. Enough said!

Man U 3:1 Arsenal

I enjoyed this as a Man U fan, but suffered as an FPL manager. I had three players here but they delivered 5 points. I wish I could tear Gabriel Jesus a new one for that senseless yellow card, costing me one valuable point in the process. 

With Everton, Brentford, Spurs and Liverpool coming next, I'm not touching Arsenal's defenders. As for Man Utd's new boy, Antony, he started with a goal but wasn't that dangerous. However, it looks like he fancies cutting inside and delivering enticing crosses into the box. That should help Man U's striker. The question is, who is going to be that in the long run? Ronaldo is still around, he will not accept bench roles all season. With Antony taking over the right side of attack, Sancho moves to his preferred left. So, Rashford is in direct competition with Ronaldo and Sancho. That's a tough one. For now, Rashford keeps his place and over 400k managers already got him this week.

Könttyrät FC ascended to the top of the log from 4th position after accumulating 63 points, dropping Pelz FC to the second position. In case you were wondering how Toney, Trossard and Haaland did the trick for him. Manager Change Name had the highest point tally in the league with 68. He reaped the reward of incredible bravery, playing Kane alongside Haaland and Jesus. However, Rashford was his differential.
