SUPERMAN
"Not all superheroes wear capes",
not all superheroes know they're superheroes either.
As a child, I was so lucky to have two "Superman" I looked up to;
I'd watch Clark Kent on TV & my father off it.
My teacher asked me to define " Superhero" in class one day
& I apologized to Clark Kent in my mind before I said this:
Someone who doesn't show up to be seen,
who doesn't need the praise & glory, but would constantly bleed himself
into water so I could drink. He'd break his body
into bread and say to me "eat, lest you starve". His cape collection
was greatly limited but I always had clothes. My superman carried
a potbelly because he swallows up all his feelings,
so much that I didn't think he ever got sad, or scared.
My superman made me, saved me & taught me.
As if that wasn't enough, he raised something out of nothing
with his strokes & wordless love.
