First aid

First Aid refers to the immediate assistance given to someone injured or had suddenly taken ill before the arrival of ambulance, doctor or other qualified persons. It is a skill based on knowledge, training and experience. First aid training is important as it is relevant in homes, workplaces or industries and any other place.

**Golden Rule of First Aid**:  *Do no harm to yourself, to the casualty and people standing by* ***4B's of First Aid*** *Breathing* *Bleeding* *Burns* *Broken bones* **AIMS OF FIRST AID** *To save life* *To promote quick recovery* *To prevent the situation from getting worse* *To save time* *To save cost* **PRINCIPLES OF FIRST AID** ***Assess the situation****: observe the area, what has happened and never put yourself at risk* ***Make the area safe****: protect the casualty from danger, beware of your limitation* ***Assess all casualties and give emergency aid****: determine treatment priorities,  treat ones with life threatening case first* ***Get*** ***help: call for ambulance*** **QUALITIES OF A FIRST AIDER** *Must be resourceful at all times* *Must be sympathetic and empathetic to the casualty* *Must be smart and confident* *Must be observant (eagle's eye)* *Must be bold, focused and gentle (hand of a maiden)* **SCOPE OF FIRST AID** ***DIAGNOSIS****: check casualty's history, signs, symptoms* ***CARE****: In the order of breathing, bleeding, burns, broken bones* ***TRANSPORTATION****: arrange to take the casualty to the hospital* ***RECORD KEEPING****: complete bio of the victim, first aider, date and time of the accident*
