Blog: Clitoraid For FGM Victims

Clitoraid is a non-profit organization that aims to help all victims of the barbaric tradition of "clitoral excision" or "female genital mutilation" (FGM) practiced on women especially girls in Africa. It is a project developed in 2005 under the leadership of Maitreya Rael, a spiritual leader of the Raelian Movement and human rights activist. The repair of the clitoris (a part of the vagina) began on March 8, 2014 at Kamkaso Hospital in Burkino Faso, West Africa built by the Raelian Movement. Here more than a million FGM victims want to be helped by the Clitoraid group, it is done through a clitoral repair surgery, and now thousands of african women have undergone surgery and everything went well after the operation . This operation is free, in fact, each surgery costs 25,500 pesos equivalent to 1 to 2 years salary of an African.

Female genital mutilation is performed on some ethnic groups in Africa without anesthesia, mostly here but there are also a few countries around the world that perform FGM and in the Philippines there are also such as Yakan tribes. Although it is not part of religious exercise but it happens in Christian, Muslim and Jewish communities. According to UNICEF data in 2016, about 200 million women in 30 countries have experienced it. One of the goals of FGM is to curb sexual desire or desire to have sex with a woman before marriage.

There are four types of female genital mutilation / cutting:

First, female circumcision is done by removing the clitoris or in Tagalog called clitoris or manî which can be seen on the upper part of the woman's vagina, cutting it with a blade or knife, also removing the hood around the clitoris and because there is no anesthesia, it is very painful. This procedure is known as clitoridectomy and is the first type of FGM.

Second type, here the patient will undergo excision, cut the clitoris and clitoris hood with a blade and cut the upper part of the inner labia of the skin of vulva, a genital organ on the side of the vagina, then sew until it condenses.

Third type, the clitoris along with the hood part will be removed with a blade or knife then the entire inner and outer labia will be cut and then sewn to close the vagina but they will leave a small hole for urination and menstruation. This type 3 procedure is called infabulation. This clogged skin will only be cut once the woman has had sex.

Four types, this is the most harmful procedure to the female genitalia performed in the southern and eastern parts of Africa, here you can cut, burn or burn the clitoris, the labia and vagina. Pierced, pierced, sliced, sliced, burned, scarred and so on. It hurts a lot especially without anesthesia.

There are no medical evidences if FGM has health benefits, and such rituals or beliefs are too harmful to undergone for girls where they can harm you. In fact, there are many side effects of FGM such as excessive vaginal bleeding, pregnancy complications, infections, severe pain, urinary problems, menstrual problems and problems during sex, mental health issues, shock and possibly death. It also has adverse effects emotionally, socially and psychologically. FGM is a Violence Against Women and Girls, Child Abuse, and Sexual Assault so many want to ban it.

In 1997, the World Health Organization (WHO) issued a joint statement against the practice of FGM with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). They want to stop this practice, and they are calling on the governments of various countries to educate women about its harmful effects on health and to enact legislation for it. It was supported by the UN General Assembly in 2012 as well as several groups or individuals, and one of our Clitoraids has been at the forefront and wholeheartedly opposed to this task until now, not only in the fight but also in helping to restore women's clitoris.

The Raelian Clitoraid project is part of a humanitarian mission that wants to inspire everyone to promote the Humanitarianism system. What are the main goals of Clitoraid? First, Clitoraid enables FGM victims to help them reach their first orgasm. Second, it aims for women to have sexual freedom and pleasure from their sexual part. Third, Clitoraid is promoting a campaign for people to help fight female excision as well. Clitoraid is about promoting free sexuality and exploring their right to masturbation, Clitoraid wants to make it clear that masturbation is not bad and is not rude in this matter. Clitoraid is about sharing pleasure, hope, kindness and femininity.

So far, Clitoraid has been helping Africa to a large extent, it has trained doctors since 2006 and apart from Kamkaso (Pleasure) Hospital, our organization wants to build more hospitals and train doctors for some parts of Africa such as Kenya, the Gambia, Egypt or Nigeria where there are large numbers of FGM victims. We hope that the day will come when this primitive work around the world will also be stopped.
