Depression is different. You look like you are locked in a dark room and you have no door open.
Depression can be difficult to deal with alone, so professionals recommend the support of friends and acquaintances to guide and help relieve depression, anxiety, and other negative feelings associated with depression.
We can't say but you may know someone who is currently experiencing depression and may contact you at any time for emotional support and assistance.
Psychologist Selena C. Snow, Ph.D., also says that people suffering from depression have the ability to understand that they are not the only ones who are suffering from anxiety when they have support and understanding from people also understand their feelings.
So it is a great thing of encouragement to fight their illness at the same time because they understand each other's experiences. Since then, they have to deal with it at the same time and gradually overcome daily.
And if you have never experienced depression, you may not understand how to help them so you need to understand a few things to show that they are important to you and that you care about them. They need to see from you that you love them and that they care about their feelings.
1. Don't ignore their feelings.
You need to appreciate and show that you understand what they are going through. Because when they see that you are worried about them, it is a great thing for them and to somehow ease and alleviate the pain they feel.
2. You do not need to treat them.
Because if that were the case, then a consultation with a psychologist would be sufficient to cure the depression. But the truth is, depression has many causes and symptoms so it's very complicated.
So instead of trying to treat them, you better make them feel that you are there, loving, supportive, understanding, and cheerful.
3. Being positive always helps.
Having the support and positive outlook from you is very important for someone close to you who is experiencing depression. But they should only slowly and completely avoid the realization of positive things because the opposite can be the result of them being unable or more focused on negative things. And this can result in a more negative outlook.
4. Listen to them.
Ask them questions and let them talk about how they feel even when they say yes negatively. Because it is important for them to have an audience, attention, and appreciation.
5. Understand how they feel.
It is our right to have an appreciation for one another and to value one another. The type that sometimes you do not understand, it is a great help to get a simple understanding from you.
6. Always show support.
A person experiencing depression may find it difficult to seek help from others in case they need it. So it's important that you are always there to show your love and support in times of need.
7. Invite them out.
Usually, when a person experiences depression he or she is often confined and does not want to leave the room. So try to invite them to have other activities with other family members instead of staying in the room.
Because when they try to go out and enjoy some activities it can cause them something positive.
8. Take time for yourself.
No matter how much you want to help someone with depression, you also need to make sure that you still take care of yourself. Make time for yourself before you become depressed too.
If you are feeling tired or discouraged, these are the signs that you also need to relax and enjoy yourself.
