The Mysterious Death of Julie Vega
Even though there is a specific reason upon Julie Vega’s death, there are still speculations as to what the true cause might be. Several reports happened upon the release of her movie Lovingly Yours Helen, The Movie.
I found many articles regarding the death of this child actress. Although I believe that pneumonia is the real cause of her death, I still can’t manage to hide the belief that it is beyond pneumonia alone.
Julie Pearl Apostol Postigo or Julie Vega is the show business was born on May 21, 1969 in Quezon City, Philippines. She became so popular when she was 16 years old and won two FAMAS Awards (one of the most prestigious awards in the Philippines) for Best Child Actress. In 1985, during her high school days, she started to complain about an illness. She was later diagnosed with demyelinating disease which was either multiple sclerosis or Guillain-Barre Syndrome. Guillain-Barre Syndrome is caused by the immune system that damages the peripheral nervous system. Symptoms may include changes in sensation or pain along the muscles and may develop within hours to weeks. She died on May 6, 1985 in the Lung Center of the Philippines, Quezon City, just 15 days before her seventeenth birthday.
Her death became so popular that made every Filipino shocked. Because who would imagine that a child actress who was so energetic and talented will suddenly suffer to death? Due to the devastation she left in the showbiz industry, many fans wondered on things that may be the “real” cause of her death. Although there are many reason to justify her death, all of the people who reasoned out were pleased that it has something to do with her last movie.
“Akin and Walang Diyos” was an episode of Lovingly Yours Helen, The Movie that showed Vega with a role of a girl being possessed by a demon. Many people said that the place maybe haunted since, by looking at it, it is like something that came out of a horror film.
The first speculation was being Vega being cursed after the shooting of the scene. The house is located in San Miguel, Bulacan and movie staffs thought that they might disturbed the supernatural creatures and Vega’s life became a payment for the disturbance.
Another one is a “Spanish ghost” who became attached to Vega since she is very a good-looking girl. The Philippines was taken over by the Spaniards for three hundred years so the possibility of ghosts and spirits roaming around the areas in the Philippines is really high.
Others said that “Lamang-Lupas” or land monsters may also felt affection towards the young girl. Land monsters include “Kapre” who is a really tall man who is often seen smoking a cigarette on top of big trees.
Ghost hunters and paranormal investigators have been going back to the area to bring explanations to those speculations. Some researchers said that they have seen Vega’s body still in the area which might confirm that there is really something in the house.
Personally, I have watched some documentaries regarding Julie Vega’s death. And somehow, there are really some details that are accurate towards her death. You can watch some scenes in the film and Vega really did an outstanding role there.
Either way, Julie Vega was admired by many Filipino during her career and if one of those rumors is true, well, who knows.
