It is the fourth installment to one of the most successful movies of all time, Pirates of the Caribbean. The movie is based on “On Stranger Tides by Tim Powers”, a 1987 historical fantasy novel and was placed second in the annual awards of the Locus Poll for Best Fantasy Novel. Starring Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow, he was joined Penélope Cruz’s role as Angelica in their search for the Fountain of Youth. The movie was produced by Walt Disney Pictures and went on screen on May 20, 2011.

India

Budget: $71 million (5.43 billion INR)

Box-Offcie: $104 million (800 crore)

Indian filmmaker both wrote and directed this 2018 Indian science-fiction and action movie. Starring Rajinikanth, it follows a plot about a battle between Chitti, a humanoid robot, and Pakshi Rajan, a former ornithologist. It all started when mobile phones started to fly in the air making a worldwide panic. Phones started to have to their own minds to eliminate people, destroying retail stores and phone towers.

The movie had won four Ananda Vikatan Cinema Awards, including Best Animation and Visual Effects and Talk of the Town. It was also nominated in the Asian Film Awards for Best Visual Effects and Best Sound.

Russia

Title: Viy 2: Journey to China

Budget: $49 million

Box-Office: $14.1 million

A 2019 Russo-Chinese fantasy adventure film that stars Rutger Hauer, Charles Dance, Jackie Chan, Arnold Schwarenegger, Helen Yao and main star Jason Flemyng about his scientific exploration from England to China. It was revealed that Jackie Chan’s stunt team helped out to help in choreographing stunts and fights for the film. The movie is a sequel to Viy, a 2014 movie that is based on Viy by Nikolai Gogol.

A 2015 film starring Dennis Trillo about Felix Manalo (labelled as Ka Felix in real life) who studied, joined and left Catholicism and Protestantism who then started a church for the Biblical Church’s re-establishment founded by Jesus called Iglesia ni Cristo or INC in July 27, 1914. Both story and screenplay was made by INC evangelism head Bienvenido Santiago. Over eight thousand people were hired as extras and over one hundred actors starred in the making of the movie. Scenes were shot in Bataan, Laguna which the baptism scene was shot, Subic and Metro Manila.

China

Title: Asura

Budget: $113.5 million

Box-Office: $7.1 million

A 2018 Chinese fantasy film about Buddhist mythology directed of Peng Zhang, the stunt coordinator in such Hollywood films like The Twilight Saga and Ant Man. Asura in Buddhism is known as the Jealous God and the domain of the Asuras or demigods. Asuras are said to believe to come back to life after past destructive actions in the world. Taking on human forms, they have bad actions but results to good intentions. The film was shot on different locations in China. It was later on pulled from the cinema due to social media outbreak though no explanation was found.
