Cost Cutting
September 2, 2022 Friday
Cost cutting is a measure to minimize or reduce expenses to help financial distress.
This year is a big leap on the prices of commodities here in my country. Many low income earner becomes more problematic. Our family also is affected and having more hard time because of it.
Earning low and spending less still not a big help on us. So we are making list to what do we need to reduce or measures to make it happen.
One thing that we really wanna cost cut is our electric bill. After the typhoon odette hit, the electric bills keeps going up and there are intermittent power interruptions that we really have no control. So everytime there is a power failure or power fluctuations, our appliances are power on again instantly after the power resume and that is the time the power consumptions leap in the power meter. Ohh..more headaches if this is the case always. We discuss about our measures to lessen the electric bill then.
REFRIGERATOR
We do use this because I do buy raw meat and some veggies too. Some open meds are also stock inside. This is really a great help for us though it consumes a lot of electricity since its wattage is too high. Thus we decided to turn it off as early as 5am and turn in again around 11am. We have a 6hours per day of saving some electricity.
TELEVISION
During vacation, my children really watch television more than stay outdoors. When pandemic starts, we barely let them stay outdoors and keep distant in crowds like children playing in the neighborhood. So television also gives a big contribution to our electric bill. Yet when it was damage and broke, it was a blessing in disguise. Now no television to add up our bill. But honestly, I want to purchase one someday when I can afford it. As of now, we just spend for what we really need and buying an appliance is out of picture.
ELECTRIC KETTLE
Since we do consume milk and coffee, we always need hot water. Sometimes if we need little time only, we use the electric kettle. Like other heating appliances, it also consumes more electricity. But what we do now, we buy a big thermos to store the hot water. We do boil water in a kettle using firewoods to save more expenses.
LIGHT BULBS
Even though light bulbs wattage is not that big, we do take measures to cut some lights off at night. After typhoon odette, we decided to buy a solar lamp for outdoors to lights out overnight and then we buy another one for indoors since we cannot turn off the lights at night because of the children. Thus indoor solar lights help us lights our night while saving some electricity then.
Closing Thoughts
Checking the electricity meter makes me smile today. It really have progress and our measures really a good start. Last month we consume almost 80kilowatthour for a month then as I check it today, we have just consume 39kilowatthour and we only have 10days left to have our final 1month electricity consumption. So I guess we really have to work more to save more. Find more measures and other means too.
