Finding Quality among the Noise

The introduction of noise.cash has been a wonderful experience to read.cash users especially those who hard it difficult meeting the article requirements for a good tip from Rusty - "If your article's reading time is less than 3 minutes, you'll get about 10 times smaller tips from me, than people who write longer articles. 3 minutes of reading time is about 600 words." Not just that, it also improved interaction among users and also gave us an additional source of earning Bitcoin cash.

Unfortunately, many didn't see it as the social media platform it was meant to be. The "free money" assumption or tag attracted a lot of people who are only there for a slice of the "free money". Many of such users joined for the money and will immediately convert their earnings to their local fiat currency and they will do anything to increase their earnings on the platform. They most likely have no interest in onboarding as a BCH user.

Explore Section: It's quite hard to find quality content

On noise.cash, it's quite hard to find users who post quality content to tip and follow especially from the "Explore" section where all post feeds can be seen sorted by post time - with recent posts at the top. The page is filled with more "rubbish" than quality. Users will be busy reposting quotes from the web without adding additional value, and others will be busy begging for tips and subscribers (sub to sub). There were moments I take out a lot of minutes exploring the "Explore" page to find me, new users, with quality posts. But after several minutes of scrolling through the page in my hunt for quality content to tip and follow its users, I gave up, as I barely saw any. Perhaps I was unlucky as at the time of searching or there seem not to be quality contents from other users aside though I have already subscribed to.

I got frustrated someday I had to ask other noisers for help.

I asked them to suggest to me some quality users who they already follow. And some users came through for me and I got to add more users to my following. And once in a while, I do make out time to visit the "Explore" section and there are days I'd get lucky to find one or more users worth following and tipping.

The Chamber Section is not left out.

The "Chambers" was created to have a similar function as communities in read.cash. Each chamber is dedicated to a specific topic or idea but you will find a lot of spammy and worthless content unrelated to the topics intended for the chamber. And there are no chamber rules and moderation, so nothing can be done about the irrelevant posts on a chamber's page.

Suggestions

1. Sorting post feeds by popularity

A user suggested sorting post feeds based on the popularity of the post determined by the number of tips and the number of hearts (likes).

Feeds on the Explore section are sorted by time, so all posts appear at the top of the feed. The suggestion is good, and the idea is that it will place popular posts at the top of the feed. And there is a high probability that most popular posts (with high tips and likes) will be of quality content.

The downside is that Newcomers will find it hard getting the exposure they need as their posts will be pushed to the bottom of the feed. Older users with good following will benefit from this (even if the post is of poor quality as long as their large subscribers like and tip their post). This will not give new users with quality content equal exposure on the explore page. I want to believe noise.cash developers are working on something good as they are aware of the problem and have seen the suggestions by users.

At the moment, you can stick to your subscription and check out recommended users in the "might be interesting..." area.

Whom to subscribe recommendation area on noise.cash

You can also take some minutes to check out the explore sections daily or whenever possible, you may find one or more users worth tipping and following.

2. Adding moderation to "Chambers"

Visit some chambers and you will see a lot of spammy contents. Posts irrelevant to the dedicated topic or idea of the chamber. Sometimes, I can't help but wonder why some individuals are not reasonable. If you can't find a chamber that fits your post there is provision to create a new one and t it takes just a few seconds, instead of spamming a chamber with irreverent posts.

The best solution to the above is chamber moderation. Moderation as obtained in communities on read.cash can help curb spammy/irrevelant posts from chambers on noise.cash. The creator of the chamber can be given admin/moderator role to manage the affairs of the chambers. They can set rules governing the use of the chambers and also moderate the quality of post sent to the chamber. With this a sports news post sent to a music chamber can be rejected by the moderators and it won't be found there.

We can only observe and make feature suggestions with hope we'll be heard and the necessary action will be taken. At the end, the final decision and feature implementation is at the hands of the noise.cash team.

I hope updates will be made to solve these challenges especially adding moderation to chambers. As for the quality of the posts on explore section, we can always find a way around it - sticking to the "subscription" page, checking out the users from the "whom to subscribe to" recommendations on the "might be interesting" bar.

I look forward to seeing moderation in noise.cash chambers and better days with noise.cash.

also kinda of annoying is the spammy contents. I get to many folks saying to me, tip me tip you! As if it was some magical phrase that will make me tip them. I usually like to people, look if you want tips just post original content like you do in other platforms like twitter. It can be anything, from you eat for breakfast today or share fun of your pets, showcasing your art. Like just anything, but for god sakes do not spamm with follow for follow or copy others content

I think noise.cash gave a solution to that, there are options to mute, block and report a user who does that. Once you have blocked such user, you won't receive feeds from them again.

it's a bit difficult sir, I've said the same thing, I even found people who use other people's photos for their own interests. that's the reason why i wrote in read.cash about how to get 1BCH. We have to look at the user's profile one by one to make sure that the user is real and not using other people's photos and data.

The thing is, the platform was made to imitate Twitter and reddit so i doubt a moderator woild and should be needed. The only thing we can ho by is the rules and it's good at least the the AI for detecting spam has pretty much leveled up

I think subreddits on Reddit have moderation (I could be wrong, I have only visited the platform a fee times.)

Twitter doesn't have groups.

I'm not requesting for all posts to be moderated, just those sent to chambers.

Hello macro:

I don't know how good an idea it can be to moderate what is published on a social network. What I do agree on is that there is too much spam and poor quality posts., there should be a control regarding that, and surely later there will be. A good idea could be to motivate participants with stronger tips if this type of comment is reported or moderated. To be clearer, for example if you report a comment that is spam, could the system thank you with a tip of $ 0.50? , I see it as a good idea and it would motivate people to make more content and to be watching what they post.

The moderation I refer to is for the chambers only. Chambers are like groups, the users who created them should be given moderation rights to manage the chamber they have created.

Your suggestion is also a good one. Let's see what noise.cash will do about the issue.
