Crazy Tornado In The Hood

How crazy the weather could become nowadays? Yesterday I saw the photos posted by some people on social media where their cars are buried in snow. Today, we had pleasant weather in the morning, then a crazy tornado surprised the city at around four in the afternoon. How crazy was that?

So, we had a normal day at work today. During lunch time we went out to buy food and we’re on our umbrellas because  the sun was scorching hot. We got so busy afterwards with our patients, the outpatient department was in full house. Later, we noticed that it rained so hard, we didn’t even mind it because we’re so preoccupied with work. Then, suddenly, we lost power and electricity, but apparently that did not disrupt us long enough because the backup generator came in a jiffy. We finished work around five o’clock already and while we walked out of the hospital, we were all distraught to hear the tornado that wreaked some areas in the city along Hinaplanon river.

While browsing on Facebook, I’ve seen this reel shared by my sister, and it was a glimpse of the tornado in St. Michael’s College, Iligan City. I tried checking if there’s a video uploaded on YouTube, but there were none. So, you can check the reel from here. Mind you, the school is a bit far from the river, but still it was that strong. I can’t imagine the fear felt by the students still having their classes that time. I have seen an article from Manila Bulletin regarding the incident and it affects more or less ten zones along the river.

This is just sad for the people affected by the tornado and the flash flood. This must have brought horrific memories from the people affected by Typhoon Sendong that happened some years back during the holidays when it killed thousands of people in Cagayan de Oro and Iligan City.

Just surprising that there was no warning whatsoever from the local authorities before this happened. If this is what climate change brings now and then, I think it's time that we need to take care of Mother Earth.

Lastly, I pray for the people affected by this calamity. May they find the strength and courage to face the damages it has caused to them physically and emotionally, and also to their properties. I'm sure the local government will be assisting them, but I hope they will receive enough help in this time of crisis.

God bless us all and take care wherever you are.
