Duterte's Speech in terms of Principles and Ethics Communication
President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has been known for being a leader with alarmingly insightful words and acts ever since he was elected as our beloved country's 16thPresident. Even though the President is doing everything in his ability to address all the major issues that the Philippines is experiencing, he has been repeatedly chastised for his nasty style in delivering his comments towards individuals and things that he dislikes, whether personal or not. In a multicultural situation, communication ethics refers to the morals, values, and appropriateness of behavior and an effective communicator must adhere to ethics to properly communicate the information in a way that does not insult anyone.
The speech is unethical, we noted in the video that President Duterte did not follow the criteria for successful communication and did not follow ethical considerations. We can find countless unethical remarks in his entire speech, including his inappropriate behavior and detrimental attacks of America, he doesn’t respect others, inserting a slew of shady humor, critical statements, and yet another vulgar curse remark. He identifies the disparities between China and America right away in the opening of his speech, where the latter has been subjected to numerous disparaging statements and has been painted in a poor manner where whites are labeled as "discourteous people with foolish arrogance" in some of his remarks, and "partnering with them is a shortcut to lose money." His views generated a negative atmosphere in which the United States was portrayed in an overly negative light, which may be described as rude and inconsiderate behavior, especially given that he is in a multicultural situation. Although his wit may appeal to China by placing blame for a prior friend, the international community may see our country's leader as a vulgar, unethical, and ineffective communicator.
To make the speaker effective, he should be concise and precise in presenting our speech, especially in an international forum. The moral value should be the foremost guide to avoid offending other races and foster a respectful, courteous, open-minded atmosphere amongst cultural variety by returning to the aim of ethics and its standards for good communication.
