K-drama Review: Oh my Ghostess!

We live and then we die. And there is nothing we can do about it because this is every human's fate. But not everyone is blessed to have a long life. We, people, face many problems in life that we have to deal it, either alone or with someone. So this makes our lives very tragic. That's why there are people that can't take all of it and just decide to ended everything.

There is also a few who wanted to live longer despite everything but because of the cruelty of the world, they failed. And when this happens, does every human being has a soul that will roam around just because of their unfinished business? Religiously, well yes there is. After we die, our soul needs to be the judge about our earthly doings. Then, heaven or hell awaits you.

This thought suddenly pop into my mind when I watched a Kdrama entitled Oh My Ghost. I have seen already many Kdramas that talk about ghosts but this one got me. Not just because I idolize the female lead but it's the story that will capture you.

The story starts with a ghost of a not-so-young lady, a jolly but slightly naughty, haunting for a man to made love. To be able to succeed, she will possess someone else's body. But in the end, it all failed. These keep on happening because he hasn't found the man of vitality. And she thought that's why her soul still didn't go up because she's holding grudges. She was a virgin ghost. That's why she needs to find someone to do it to be able to go to paradise. But even the afterlife wasn't good to her because she's doing that for almost 3 years. While on the other hand, the female lead was dreaming to be a successful chef someday. But opposition from the ghost, she was very shy, had no self-confidence, and was humble that even the other party was at fault, she will still be the one to apologize. Most of all, she can see things that cannot be seen by a normal human. She got it after her grandmother who is a shaman. But still, she can't deal with every ghost that asking for any help or whatever. She just closed her eyes and ignored them. Even after work, she just chose to roam around and walk around with many people at least she can have company unlike in her tiny room where ghosts will try to scare her. So when she went to work in the morning she was exhausted, sleepy, and tired. She was a dishwasher at a very classy restaurant owned by the male lead, the Chef, whose she is secretly in love with. For her, he is the reason why she doesn't give up on her dream of becoming a real chef. The chef is very handsome, charismatic bút very strict especially when it comes to working. He can just captivate you, not just by his face but through his stomach. Fast forward, the ghost possesses the female lead without her knowing. Ghost only possesses those who are weak. It was just for a while because she just want to run away from another shaman who wants her to go up already because when 3 years will passed, she will turn into an evil spirit and will cling to every human being that is lonely and hurting. Then suddenly, she found out that she can't get out of the woman's body. She hesitating at first, but when he found out that Chef is the man of vitality and the woman she possesses is the woman of vitality then she thought it will be game over. Everyone at the woman's workplace though she is sick and got weird because of her new personality. The ghost thought that it would be easy to fulfill her goals but it's not. A chef is also a conservative man. But then the woman get sick and the ghost finally got out of the woman's body. When the woman found out that she was possessed, she freak out and never let the ghost again come to her. Then came the girl's best friend of Chef, she is a threat to the woman, she knew that it won't be difficult for the both of them to fall in love with each other. So the ghost and the woman made a truce. The ghost will use her body to solve her virgin grudge and for the woman, if the ghost was done with her business then Chef will be hers. The whole thing was going smooth. Chef is already in love with the female lead. But the ghost develops feelings towards the Chef which is not right. The ghost almost got the chance to solve her grudge but she thinks that if she already finished with her business then she can finally wave goodbye to everyone. And she's not yet ready to leave Chef because of the feelings created. Because of her conscience, she wanted to end their deal. She accepted that it was her fate. While possessing the female lead's body, the ghost was able to remember her family, her father, and younger brother. When she finally let go of her unsolved grudge, she stay at her family's home. She pities her father who is always drunk to sleep every night knowing that he's hurting because of her sudden death. Like a lightning strike that come into her mind, why did she died? Did she really commit suicide? But how come? Why? She remembered herself very happy, helping her father at their small restaurant, singing with all of their customers. She cried forcing her mind to remember everything. Meanwhile, Chef has a younger sister that is married to a handsome policeman. It turns out that when the ghost was still alive, he was his crush. Chefs sister cannot walk due to an accident 3 years ago. To make the story short, the ghost suddenly remembers everything when the policeman touches him. 3 years ago, she witnesses how a car hit the Chef's sister and when the driver found out that no one sees him he continue to drive leaving the woman unconscious and break legs. Her conscience was eating her, that's why end up calling the policeman unknowingly that he's the one who committed the crime. She got the chance to run but in the end, the guy got her luckily and killed her. Using her phone, the guy texts her father a suicide note and then throws her at the bridge to make it look just a suicide. After all, this was her unsolved grudge. Her sudden and unwanted death. That guy was possessed by an evil spirit that's why he was able to do those things. The shaman friend of the ghost gets rid of the evil spirit successfully. There so many things happen but in the end, she got up happily. She is free to leave without any burden.

This story just proves how sad and cruel this world we live in. Sometimes, we all need to go to the flow of life in order to live harmoniously. We don't know what tomorrow may bring to us. But I know God is always all ears to us so just always have faith and trust in Him. Life is really short so always live your life to the fullest.
