When a person is in pain, his initial reaction is to get away from it or to make the pain go away. It's a distinct part of humanity to keep himself from any type of pain, especially if it is physical pain.
Physical pain come in many forms but a person's tolerance to it differs. Physical pain includes headache, bruises, wound or any other physical ailments such as internal pain or pain which are there but cannot be healed.
There are also different types of pain infliction. Pain infliction is the way how pain is given or received. It might be intentional or unintentional. It might be done by others or done by you.
When people talk about pain it is a broad thing to discuss so I'd like to focus on a specific type of pain which is the physical pain. I believe that most of us has experienced physical pain and that pain might have taken a minute or a few days or longer before it's finally over.
Let's start which chronic diseases which causes physical pain.
Heart disease. When a person has a heart problem, oftentimes his chest tightens. It might cause palpitation, loss of breath, and even pale complexion.
As for someone like me who has tachycardia which is why I don't drink caffeinated drinks, it was a tightening chest, as if air was sucked out of me and the pain worsens which makes me teary, pale, and unable to breathe properly but after the episode which usually takes for 2-5 minutes I get better afterwards. Tachycardia is a sudden speed of heartbeat even without doing anything strenuous. When I was in college I wasn't able to join any physical activities since I'm still on the process of healing. Thankfully I feel a lot better now and I haven't had any episodes ever since.
Asthma or lung related problems. When you have weak lungs, it's very common for you to catch a cold and it usually lasts 2 weeks as the minimum and the maximum depends on the person's state.
When I had tachycardia, I also had tuberculosis that time so it wasn't really clear whether I had tachycardia due to my tuberculosis or other reasons. When you had a tuberculosis, your lung has a permanent scar in it. I almost wasn't able to be accepted with my current job due to it. I must have a fit work medical records so I'll be able to work which thankfully I did have, well just after a few more tests were run on me.
Other internal problems such as cancer. When a person has cancer, it is said that the pain is undescribable. It is exhausting physically, mentally, emotionally and financially.
I had a churchmate before who had a breast cancer but she was able to survive it but because of unchanged lifestyle she had liver cancer and this time she wasn't able to survive it. It's so sad for her kids are all minor but at the same time it was also a wake up call about how life must be lived.
Long term health problems such as hyperacidity. When a person is stressed out, his stomach produces acid. When a person's eating habits and lifestyle is unhealthy, it's most likely to develop this as well.
I have hyperacidity and heartburn. Thankfully it wasn't anything serious. I just need to eat what doesn't trigger it so I'll be safe and healthy. I'm also bloated but the doctor said that its curable and I have to eat healthy so I won't need further tests. The doctor's only advice with me is to not stress myself out and to not eat what I'm not supposed to eat and have a happy life. A life free from stress is difficult and almost impossible so a positive perspective is needed.
Pain only known to women like dysmenorrhea or a woman in labor. When a woman has her monthly period, she sometimes experience this depending on her period cycle. When a woman is about to give birth, she will really experience the labor pains which was unstoppable.
I have a regular monthly period but sometimes my period is painful. I can't move out of bed, I'm pale, shivering, and I vomit due to abdominal pain. And I'm forever thankful to have my family to help me whenever I'm in pain. I'm also thankful that my ultrasound results came normal which means to say that I have nothing to worry about.
There also other different types of pain which came from accidents and it usually takes time for a person to be healed completely. The types of pain mentioned above are pain which we have no control of.
The next type of pain is self-inflicted pain. This is a serious matter to attend to and I want to address this without any sugarcoating of words.
There are people who fund peace and serenity when they feel pain. It's not as though they actually wanted being in pain, it's more of wanting to feel alive by inflicting pain in their own bodies. Most of the times, it has something to do with their own personal problems which they have nothing or no one to share it with. They find a different outlet on how to deal with it by hurting themselves.
This isn't their personal choice, this is what too much pain does to them. It's like a blanket of comfort to them. It's the manifestation that they are still alive and that they are okay.
I've read a manga bout this only because I was too curious until I met someone who does it. When I asked why she does it, 'I want to feel alive. I'm too numb si I need pain to remind me that I'm still alive.'
I didn't know what to do or what to say. I just sat there staring right into her eyes until I felt the need to embrace her which I did. I want to shed the teras which she can't pour out. After our brief conversation and embrace, she smiled a sad smile. Now, I still talk to her from time to time. I always make sure to check up on her and make her realize that she is never alone in whatever circumstance she's facing.
If ever you are reading this and you inflict pain to yourself for whatever reason, please know that talking to someone who can can somehow ease what you feel inside. You need to find another outlet to let out your pain, anger, hurt, fear and numbness. It takes time but with the right people to help, guide and support you, you'll definitely overcome it.
I'm not a doctor to diagnose you properly, but I'm someone willing to listen to what you want to say because I know the feeling of not being heard. Please know that someone cares for you.
If you're reading this, and you're experiencing the same thing or someone you know experiences this, please know that you are never alone. You don't need to walk through this path alone. No it's never like that. May you have the peace of mind that all of us deserves.
Have faith in yourself. You can do it. Congratulations for being here today. Thank you for existing.
