Parents will do anything they can for their child. They are even willing to be the one who is sick than to see their children sick. They also don't want any mosquito or fly to touch the skin of their kids.

These things are not possible. Children will have to leave their parents, build their career and have their own families. No matter how much you want to have your kids to stay by your side, you can't. This is why it's important to teach them life skills which they will be able to use even though they are not under your supervision anymore.

Reasons for teaching kids life skills:

You can't always be there for them. You need to teach them common knowledge as well as ways on how they can protect themselves especially in this dangerous world.

It's a parent's duty to make sure that their child is safe and secured from any harm. Be it online or on a day to day basis, children must be taught on how they can be able to know if it's dangerous for them or not.

Posting photos and videos online are okay but one must be wise enough to think before they click. Online world is too dangerous especially for young children. They are vulnerable to people who longs to harm them in any way they can. A parent must know whom her children are friends with.

Don't talk to strangers is one of the first things that a parent teaches her child. This is indeed applicable in real life. Many children are kidnapped, molested, harassed and harmed in many ways for being unprepared in facing the real world.

They must know the dangers that the world has and be wise enough not to fall in those traps.

Children will need to prepare for independence. The best way for parents to feel at ease as they let their children go their own ways is knowing that they had been prepared by their parents thoroughly.

They must be taught different housechores such as cleaning, cooking, doing the laundry, washing the dishes, gardening and even repairing parts of the house which can be done by them.

Educating the child isn't limited in academics. Life skills are also part of it. Imagine your child being 30 years old who knows nothing about surviving by himself. You can't just always take him in and just let him be.

Children will have to leave their own homes and build their own families. If you haven't prepared your kids for their future, then you'll constantly get worried for your child's welfare.

Once a child reaches the marrying age, he'll surely find their own partners to be with. You can't always be there to serve your children. They'll have to learn how to manage their own families.

Different life skills:

House chores. Your child must know how to do it regardless of his or her gender. Stop putting all the houseworks to your daughters. Your sons must also know the same thing.

Since other housechores had been mentioned in the earlier part of this article, here are other additional life skills.

Embroidery. If the clothe can be done by her, then she must do it herself. Simple embroidery skills can help her get through life easily.

Simple house repairs. You can't always have your husband to do the plumbing, fixing the window, or even changing light bulbs. What if he isn't available are you gonna call for services which requires you to pay if you can do it yourself?

It's much better to be prepared than be sorry.

Gardening. Many food produce has its high prices. If you have your own garden where you grown your own food then you'll be more at ease knowing that you will not run out of stocks and you'll even have a few money to save.

Multimedia literacy. The world has been shut from gatherings. Many things are done online. Work, shopping, studies, services and other things are done online.

Now, it's a parental duty to guide their kids about multimedia. It's not just about protecting them from cyber crime but also about teaching them so they'll know how to use certain apps and gadgets.

Instead of allowing them to sleep way too late just for nonsense use of social media, why not try to educate them about the wonders of multimedia?

Safety skills. Parents has to accept that life isn't always easy and safe especially if your kids start going to school or going out by themselves. Kids also need some time to enjoy with their friends and just enjoy being youth.

If ever your child is lost, what is he gonna do?

You must teach your child as early as you can. Your child must know that he has to go to the security guard or other person in authority to ask for help.

Knowing your phone number, name and address is already a huge help to your kids.

If ever your child is in danger, did you teach him how he can get away from it?

You must have taught him how to defend himself and how to ask for help. The most important thing right now is to stay safe and keep healthy not just from the virus but from other dangerous things as well.

If ever there is a natural calamity what are you gonna do?

You must have taught your child what to bring in case of emergency and where you will meet them. Preparedness is what keeps someone alive.

Be sure to keep in touch with your kids.

A parent's task doesn't stop not until the parent is already dead. Parenting is both a responsibility and a privilege. It's a responsibility to make sure that your kids will grow up healthy and safe and a privilege because not everyone is given a chance to be a parent.

one thing i keep on saying to my self, i will never make the same mistakes i made, i am going to make sure my kids acquire professional and hand skills at an early age, so they can grow up in it. so that kind of life style becomes part of them. they should know how to hustle, its very important. am not saying send them out at an early age to fend for themselves. yes you can play your role as a parent but remember to teach them how to succeed, like you said we wount be there for them always. nice article
