Many teachers have asked their students to write an essay about their students goals in life. Each person has his own goal and it's kinda exciting while setting your own goals. It makes you feel pumped up with seeing how or who you want to be in the future. It's more than just achieving what you want, it's more than just being satisfied. It's actually more about proving to yourself that you can, especially if most of the people around you tells you that you can't.

There are many goals which a person can pursue reaching. Goals are set so a person has something to look forward to. It's a fuel that drives you to do better and strive for the best.

Goals can be divided into these things.

  1. Family Goal - Filipinos are family oriented which is why even when a son or a daughter is already married, he/she still loves with her parents. I'm not saying that this is wrong or right, but I'm just trying to explain that when you have your own family, you must strive to live separately from your parents.

Family Goal also includes those breadwinners. They don't just work for themselves but most importantly for their own families. They always strive to survive in their workplace even when things get too heavy simply because they can't turn their backs from their families.

This might also include a new house and lot, new family car, business and so on. It's not just limited to being contented with what you have for the meantime but striving to surpass your current family situation.

  1. Relationship Goals - This type of goal might be between lover, friends, workmates and family. It's more of striving to be in a healthy and uplifting type of relationship. People are born to desire to have a companion just like the saying which states that no man is an island. We all need somebody to lean on in our lives whether we admit it or not.

You might want to get married at a specific age and build your own family.

You might want to spend time with your friends by going in a vacation and just celebrating the people who were with you through ups and downs.

You might want to have a better relationship with your family especially to your aging parents.

  1. Personal Goals - Each person has his own dream to fulfill which might seem impossible at the moment but with hardwork, consistency and determination, surely nothing is impossible. This goal tackles a border scope since each of us never wanted to settle for less which always make us strive for more.

This might include having your own business, growing on your chosen career, pursuing your passion, building your dream house, buying your dream car, travelling the world and the most important thing is enjoying your life.

If we try think more.about it, life is way too short for us to even be bothered by the negativity around us. Isn't it much better to focus on the positive and good side than to stress out on the bad side?

  1. Spiritual Goal - This isn't about being too religious or making a person uncomfortable by talking about God and the afterlife. This is about you knowing that there is life after the life on earth. Whether you believe in God or not is a huge factor that affects your well-being and upbringing. Not because you don't believe in it, it means that it's not true.

You might strive to do charity works for the needy, be more dependent on God, grow spiritually and do the ministry. You might also want to help your local church for renovation and other aspects.

This isn't easy especially with the world we live in but it's not impossible.

After knowing those few examples of goal, we will also be discussing about the two types of goal.

  1. Short-term goals - from the title itself, short term. This might include your goals in your studies, goal in self growth or even your goal for the day. This goal might take a day, a week, or even a month.

Due to the ongoing pandemic many people are stuck at home getting bored. Many people has decided to do diy home renovations, unleashing their hidden potential or talents as well as learning more about themselves. Many were also able to start their own business during quarantine.

  1. Long-term goals - again, from the title itself, long term. This takes upto several years to accomplish but when accomplished all the hardworks are never wasted. It can be your career, business, house and lot, travel, and even your passion.

Long-term goals include consistency in what you do. It's important to never give up even when you feel like it. Not all beginnings are easy nor all roads are smooth. Each journey has its own climax and ending which is for you to decided.

Pursuing your passion takes more than your guts since it makes you happy but not the people around you. Many people are unable to pursue their passion because of what others tell them but at the end of the day, it's not what they say that matters. It's what your heart tells you to.

How do I make my own goals?

How do I know that it's a goal or not?

How do I start?

These are just a few questions frequently asked but as to what I've stated at the beginning of this article, we have already set our goal from school and let me add from our homes.

When we were young, we're often asked who do we want to be when we grow up and at school we were asked to write who do we ourselves 5 or 10 years from now. Those are actually the primary things we needed in order to know how we want to be and who we want to be.

  1. Take up a paper and a pen. Wrote down everything that you want and need in life.

  2. Sort it out. Divide your goals according to it's proper classification then identify whether it's a short term or long term.

  3. Place it to where you can always see it. It's a reminder for you to strive for the better especially when you start to think about giving up.

  4. Don't just write it down, work for it. You must make it happen. Hardwork, determination, and consistency are the keys.

  5. Don't give up until you reached that goal. Remember that nothing worth having comes easy. Also, surround yourself with the people who wants you to succeed. You don't need any negativity at the moment.

  6. It's okay to cry. The journey might be painful, exhausting and at times it might make you want to give up, but keep pushing.

You must focus on your goals and never be side tracked. Rest when you're tired. Cry when you're in pain. Complain when you need to but never give up. The journey is long but the end of it is more than satisfying as long as you put yourself in check.

Also, be healthy. Your health must be your priority because you can't reach your goals when you're unhealthy.

Personal Experience:

I want to give up my current job because it's way too much for me but I can't. I'm the source of income of our family at the moment. Also, I need my job in order to pay my braces and my new eyeglasses.

I want to go back to teaching because it's what I've always known. But it's not possible at the moment. Then I suddenly remembered that I still have a lot of things to do which I can't achieve when I give up of my current job.

We need to change our water tube since it has leak which is why we have an unreasonable water bill. I need to save up money for my youngest brother's studies. He's about to enter college and I need money to prepare for it. I need to but my own laptop which I'll be using when I go back to teaching. I need to save up money to at least help in rebuilding our house. Our house is old and the plywood on our second floor are already cracking.

I also desire to be a blessing to my friends by at least treating them to a decent meal. I was always the person whom they treat since they know how life has been for me. I want to give gifts to my family. I want them to eat the food we can't since we don't have much. I also want to travel with them to a beach where we can just simply enjoy and forget our problems at the moment.

You see, I can't make it happen if I'm unemployed. Besides this job has given me more than I could ask for. I don't also need to love what I do. Sometimes I just need to look forward at the end of it so I'll be able to feel motivated once again.

I always mess up with my job, I was called out for not performing well, I always have red marks on my scorecards but I just needed to bear with it for a moment. I have this mindset that time flies fast and I wouldn't know that I made it.

If I was able to survive yesterday, I can also definitely survive today. If I was able to survive my first day at work, then I can also definitely survive my next upcoming days.

I do cry but I make sure to pull up myself and believe that I can do it.

So you must also strive for the better and think if your desired future.
