We are now living in a modern era where everything is done in an instant. Things has become a lot easier and people find more comfort in convenience. Most people spend time in the virtual world than in the real world. Many of us tend to have new identity online because it’s easy to post something good about yourself than to face the real world. Most of the times the truth in virtual reality is the lie in the real world. Social media has so many things to offer but only a few people has the right mind set towards its real purpose. Social media is created in order for us to socialize and make friends by knowing new people and being connected with them.
A lot of people are easily swayed by what the eyes see than what is the truth behind every post created online. Many people are after the beautiful face, muscled or sexy body, cars, house and lot, achievements and criticisms, but when negativity is posted everyone is given the permission to spread hate by commenting and sharing the post. It’s easy to judge based on what you see without knowing the whole truth. It is like looking at one side of the coin. You thought that the coin is authentic but when you flip it you find the other side blank.
So called influencers are found everywhere. YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok, Twitter, Snap chat, you name the app and many ‘popular people’ can be found. As you follow a social media personality, do you ever ask yourself as to why did you click that follow button and why did you ting that notification bell? Is it because of their beautiful face and body? Is it because of their personality? Is it because of their content? Is it because of their connection? Is it because of what they wear or how they dress up? What enticed you into following them? Are you following the right influencer? How are you influenced by them?
The eye is the window of the soul. Whatever you feed your mind comes from the things you pay attention to. Even the movies you watch and the songs you listen to has an effect to you. You might not see it but it is there. Your mind-set might have changed or even the way you live your life. Nothing is done in an instant. Everything takes time. You must have the awareness about the things around you. Whenever you spend time in social media it’s your responsibility to become productive.
If you are the one who follows people online, have you ever asked yourself as to why do you follow a specific person? Is it worth your time watching and trying to imitate what they are doing? Is it for you to get entertained? If you are entertained, how about its effect to you? Things become normalized even when it has bad effects just because many people tries to follow the trend. Just because many people subscribe. Social media is too powerful that you can’t handle it by yourself. Be a responsible follower. You have the authority to choose as to whom are you going to follow. You have a variety to choose from. Not because most of your friends follow an influencer, you will do so as well. You have to weigh things by looking at the effects it has on you. When you follow someone who is upright you will definitely be able to adapt its good qualities, but if you follow someone with unwholesome content, the problem is with you. You always have greater power to yourself.
If you are the one being followed online, have you ever asked yourself as to why have you started making contents? What are you really after? Spreading the truth? Helping others? The views, comments and shares? Earning money? Is it for the sake of being famous? Have you ever tried considering the people who follow you? What kind of influence are you giving them? Do you influence them in a positive way? What is your purpose for gathering more people to follow you? Do you deserve to be followed? The more people who are reached of what you pose, the higher the responsibility that is put on your shoulders. You might think solely about yourself, but you must also consider the people who follow you. Especially that most followers are teenagers and young children. Imagine the huge impact that you have given them. The fact that you are called an ‘influencer’ gives you more power to influence people. The way you influence your followers is up to you. Be one of the builders of the next generation not one of its breakers. Influence the younger generation to become better. Remember that money isn't everything. Your influence is much important than that.
Not because everyone does it, it is right. On the other hand, not because you’re the only one or only a few does it, it is wrong. There are so many wholesome contents to choose from. Health, and wellness, news, positive trends, education, charity works, photography, DIY activities, travel and a lot more. Pranks and other stuffs might be interesting and entertaining but choosing the positive and wholesome topics are a lot better. Vlogging, posting, editing and making a content is more worthwhile when you choose from the productive and positive topics. Since you have already taken the time and effort to influence others, why not choose to do the positive and right things. It will not just give you a content but it will also help in educating people from all ages of the things that we can do for one another. It is like hitting two birds with one stone. You make a wholesome content and the people who sees it are empowered and inspired to do the same thing.
The world is already filled with toxicity and negativity, let us not add to those things. Instead, let us try to post contents that are worth every single minute that someone watches it. Let us spread positivity and good influence to others. Let us spread facts and help in leaving a legacy worth remembering and worth sharing to others. We are empowered enough to unfollow those who aren’t worth being watched and being followed and let us start following those content creators who are trying to create change by doing things differently from what the so called ‘trend’ says. It’s not yet too late to start spreading what is good and start shutting down what is bad. The choice has already been given and the decision is up to you. Click wisely!
