Why do people resist learning?

Man is the only creature that cannot live without learning and without someone different from yesterday. Animals stop learning except for the basic skills to live and act on their instincts. But man is not like that; In order to improve his life, he has to somehow put learning at the center of his life and be open to learning.

Even universities have started to spread learning throughout life by opening post-teaching lifelong learning centers today. In these centers, it provides trainings to further develop and improve professionals with certificate trainings. This is because of the principle that human problem-solving skills are constant and “if they don't improve, they can't improve”. Secondly, “whatever we know, after a while all we know is useless after a while.” There is no other option but to constantly learn and improve ourselves, what I know, our competencies and abilities.

To this truth; Although we are in the information age and the one who knows will make a difference, people resist learning and glorify being ignorant; Not reading, not knowing, denying and denying the truth is not befitting human beings, and glorifying these behaviors is another mistake.

In reality, learning is a solitary action. Information providers, such as teachers, philosophers, scientists, researchers, etc., are simply information transmitters and information providers. Learning, on the other hand, is what the individual needs to deal with interest, curiosity and life problems and is done alone. No one can teach anyone anything, it just “helps.” Therefore, the only thing an individual can do is be open and hungry for learning and take responsibility for learning himself in order to improve his life.

The system, namely the environment, makes information important and valuable in order to facilitate learning; It should make reading, knowing, learning, researching attractive and glorifying, that is, making it an attractive situation. “What will happen when you read it, what will it change to consciousness, what happened when that person read it?” such as the creation of an environment that belittles and devalues reading, knowing, learning and research, which are called thought viruses – are great obstacles to learning. It will create the perception that learning is the monopoly of only a few selected people, which glorifies and makes learning valuable, and if we do not make trades about not learning or not knowing, that is, ignorance.

In short, while removing the barriers to learning, it should elevate and develop learning, knowing, understanding, reading and working; we should even build the merit with a total mobilization to bring the learner and knower to the best situation so that we can reach modernity and civilization as individuals and as a country.

People are resisting to learn when something is at stake. I think culturally speaking, when someone brings a new culture and tradition which is not similar to the culture he is in now will make a cultural banging.
