Mariam was in a daze as she let Omar drag her outside her room and towards the back door leading to the garden, her father had been shot, which means he was dead? Or probably lying somewhere there and bleeding out. Her feet moved swiftly across the marbled floor, she watched Omar run with her, his head turning left and right watching for any sign of danger and pulling her with him. He had come for her, to save her, what did this mean? Did he love her? Or he was simply being a good man and helping. And come to think of it, no guard had come to protect her, where were they? Omar had come, did he perhaps have anything to do with the chaos happening? And why did it have to happen now?

Her ornaments jingled as they ran, this part of the palace was empty and quiet but still they were on alert, Omar got to the door first and threw it open, right there in the garden the guards were fighting with men dressed in a full black outfit, their heads and the half of their faces were covered and they fought with so much skill, running round, swinging and ducking to avoid fatal blows from the guards, their swords swished in the air and came down hard to meet with the swords of the guards.

Omar and Mariam knew that these men were assassins. Quickly he shut the door and bolted it as the last of the guard fell to the sword of the assassins. He grabbed Mariam's hand and he turned for another exit but Mariam pulled her hand free, Omar turned to look at her, anger and surprise on his face then she grabbed his hand and ran back towards her room.

"Mariam what are you doing? We're supposed to be making it out of the palace and not in!"

But she didn't listen, she ran faster despite the heaviness of the cloth and jewelries. The door was shut when they got there so she slapped her palm three times on the finely crafted wood. They wouldn't open it. They were even more scared than she was.

"Parvina!! Open up!" She yelled, down the hall to the other side, she could see some men fighting to get to this side. She slapped her hand again on the door.

"Parvina!! Saadiya! Open!"

"Mariam!" Omar yelled this time, this girl was frustrating him. "What are you...?!" The door opened and Mariam dragged both of them in, shutting it behind her.

In a corner, the other women were wailing, Parvina and Saadiya stood in front of her and Omar who was giving her a death stare, he yanked her arm forcefully so that she faced him, the anger burned in his expression.

"Why did you come back?! Do you know how difficult it was to get here and try to get you out?! Are you so spoilt?!"

Mariam shoved his hand away and he loosened his grip. "That's enough Omar." Her own voice shocked her, as well as Omar and the two girls. "My father has just been shot and right now there's no body I can or should trust."

Omar opened his mouth to speak but paused, she was right, she shouldn't trust anyone so easily right now so he folded his hands across his chest and watched her. Mariam faced her friends.

"I need my outfit."

"Mariam!" Parvina shrieked. "Those are men out there! Trained, fighting men! Not wooden dummies!"

But Mariam was adamant, she began taking off her jeweleries and the heavy veil, Saadiya looked at Omar who got the message, he turned away from them and walked into the bathroom, what were they doing?

"I will not sit and be idle, if they will get me, they won't be so lucky. I won't make it so easy for them."

"I will go with you." Saadiya said and started taking off her own cloth to reveal the black outfit which lay beneath.

"You wore yours today?" Parvina asked in shock.

"Always be prepared." She flashed a smile. "Where's yours??" Parvina lowered her head and took off her outer cloth, she also wore a black outfit beneath. Saadiya smiled.

Mariam changed her wedding dress quickly and they three girls were in the same outfit as the assassins that waged war outside. They covered the half of their faces but left their hairs packed in a single pony tail. Concealed behind the headboard of her bed were swords and small throw knives and a gun too, as they gathered their things, Omar stepped out of the bathroom, what he saw left his mouth hanging in surprise. Mariam was gone. The Mariam he knew was gone, the petite, shy and frail girl he knew was replaced by this figure in black. They stared at him.

"Can you fight?" Mariam asked. Omar could notice the smirk on her face beneath the covering, he was stunned. A warrior princess, really?! Did the King know about this?

"Can you?" He collected the sword she was handing out to him and the gun.

The door was suddenly blown off its hinges and the tall wooden thing dropped noisily raising a bit of dust from the affected walls that supported the once standing doors, revealing the assassins they stood behind, one stepped forward.

"Show me the princess and I will spare all of you!"

Omar held out his sword and stepped in front of Mariam and the girls but Mariam was quick. She ran forward with a shout and slid across the floor unsheathing two swords, the assassin who had stepped forward swung his sword but he wasn't fast enough, she brought her hand up and the sword sliced the air, his arm fell away from his body and he shrieked in horror. Her next blow cut deep into his neck and he fell like a sack of potatoes. Saadiya and Parvina rushed forward to deal with the others. Omar stood rooted to a spot, too stunned to move, she possessed amazing skills. She could fight!
