Omar left home that afternoon in the company of his father, driving through the city, heading towards the south of Jeddah, to King Jaan's palace which lay just beyond the pool of Al Lith. The ride was long due to the tension in the car, the silence was thick and Omar had no intention of breaking it, his mind was back home, in the room where Megan was held prisoner. Her room was in the East wing of the house and his was on the West wing, leaving his father's room somewhere in between, her window over looked the court yard which was almost never empty even at night so he couldn't take her out through the window, moreover it was on the third floor. He moved that aside.
The vents. They were all connected on each floor, so his vent would connect to hers, so it also connected to his father's. If he would be using the vents it had to be when his father wasn't in the room, better still when his father wasn't at home. But then what would make him leave the house. It seemed getting her out of the city was the easy part, getting her out of the house was more challenging. He sighed. He had to come up with a plan C. Seven days to his engagement.
Mariam was dressed exceptionally heavily today in anticipation of her would be groom and father in law. But despite the beautiful ornaments, she still had to put on the purple abaaya when coming into the presence of the men. It covered her head and her face, leaving only her eyes open. Saadiya had told her that she had charming eyes, one that would drown any man into lustful desires, she smiled and applied more kajal to the bottom of her eye lid.
"He's here!" Parvina ran into her room, rushing to the window to look at the tall handsome man who just stepped out of the sleek black Mercedes with an older man who stepped out from the other side, they had come with two cars but they both rode in one.
"Why did they both ride in one though?" Parvina asked no one in particular still looking out the window, Saadiya joined her and immediately started praising the beauty of the man. Beautiful - was what she had used to describe him, which made Mariam want to stand up and rush to the window to see the person who had both her friends fixed to the window but she held herself. Her brows knitted into a frown.
"Maybe they have gifts in the other car, what do you think Saadiya?"
"Could be, he is the sheik's son after all and Mariam is a princess. Who would visit her empty handed speak less of an engagement."
"Before the wedding, you'd receive a room full of gifts!" Parvina squealed, her focus still on Omar who was just entering the building with his father after being received by a messenger who would usher them into the King's presence.
"You should prepare Mariam."
"Why? I'm already prepared." She said pointing to her face, "what's the use anyway, they still won't behold this beauty." She replied sarcastically grabbing her cheek with both hands and rolling her eyes.
"Again with the attitude..."
"If you won't marry him, I will!" Parvina twirled to which Saadiya shot her a sharp glance.
"I'll never love him I promise you!" Mariam half yelled. "I'll never!"
Omar remained calm and spoke less, only speaking when he was spoken to, the King seemed to admire that because he praised Khalid for raising such a well behaved young man. Omar smirked inwardly, he just needed to see Mariam, he didn't even know what she looked like but he had reasoned to talk to her, to know if she wanted this relationship also. If she didn't, it would make it much easier for him. He remained calm, not really paying attention to the discussion between the two older men, anticipating when Mariam would be ushered in.
As if on cue, three women descended the stairs, the two women on either side holding the one in the middle whom Omar guessed to be Mariam. Her abaaya was purple, trimmed with a gold finishing and flowed all the way down to her ankles. She kept her eyes down, her eye lashes were long and dark. She must have been made up with extra care for him. He smirked and looked away, he would have to talk to her, in private.
They gifts they had come with occupied a side of the Court yard, the sheik had gone the extra mile to impress King Jaan and he was impressed, not just by the volume of gifts but also by Omar's intelligence. He approved of him.
Mariam studied the man, indeed he was beautiful as Saadiya had described him, his hair was jet black and combed all the way back with a few strands coming forward to fall just above his eye, his lips was set in a thin line, his muscles were taunt, the shirt he wore giving subtle outlines to what lay beneath. Mariam mentally wacked herself in the head for thinking such thoughts but then she couldn't deny that the man was drop dead handsome, probably carved on the day Allah took his rest, spending more time on creating this tempting man. She lowered her head, refusing to be swayed by lustful temptations, she would never agree to marry him. She wished she could talk to him alone so she could voice out her heart.
"May I have a chat with my bride?" Mariam's heart skipped a beat when he spoke, especially at the way he had mentioned 'bride'. It was the first time she heard his voice and there was something striking about it, the deep baritone cut through her body like sharp daggers. She closed her eyes, she didn't hear when he father give consent so she hadn't anticipated his touch on her shoulder. She shuddered and looked up, he smiled down at her, leading her away from the group into a nearby room, closing the door behind them.
"I will not marry you." Mariam spoke out immediately they were alone. Omar turned and stared at the girl, did this just get easier for him?
"And why not?" He decided to tease this brave woman, "I'm not handsome enough?"
"You are," she bit her tongue, she had spoken too soon which made his lips curve up into a slow smile, she frowned. "You are, but I still won't marry you. There's.....someone I liked."
She looked down and he decided not to probe further, he shoved a hand into his pocket and combed his hair back with the other hand.
"There's someone I like too..."
She looked at him, he didn't want to marry her also, so why go ahead with this, she wanted to ask but he beat her to it with his next sentence.
"But she's held prisoner and might be killed if I don't marry you. And I don't want to lose her."
Her mind went back to Aadil, Omar was now in the same situation she had been in, her heart went out to him and his lover.
"So for her sake, you are willing to marry me?" He nodded. "Then what happens next? You marry her and abandon me?"
He shrugged his shoulders. "I don't really think before I act, it's kind of my charm."
Was he being serious right now? She wanted to stab his pride badly, she gritted her teeth and opened her mouth to speak but his next words left her speechless.
"Take it off, I want to see what you look like."
Ok, I'm beginning to like this a lot. Haha😂. Although I have no idea what's going to happen next. @Ozzyy and @Hanzell I should thank you for pushing me to continue it 😂
