The word patronage is never a strange word. In one way to another we must have come across the word patronage and it's a very common word. And we all have different ways to which we relate or addres the word. who do you patronise?. Most of us like doing business with people we are familiar with, people that are close to us and of cause people that are blood related and on a common case we do business with people we call our friend. While some people think patronage should be used when your dealing with someone you know just because you feel you are encouraging the person's business and on other broad sense petronage can be link to whosoever is doing a business, selling a product and needs a profit. You could patronise someon out of pity, maybe you feel if you don't patronise the person nobody will do business with the person and that is when it is out of pity. Another one is if its your family member or close friend then it either you do it out of love or because you don't have any choice. Sometimes when you go to the market you may see someone you feel you have to buy from, maybe a very young child or an old lady or even you see that no trading activities is going on in front of that person's business and you are touched from your heart to encourage the person or to buy from that person. So les say we patronise people to encourage them in their business. Even when you end up not buying from the person you felt sympathy on to buy from and you eventually buy from someone else you would be feeling guilt as if you have Done something very wrong, in this case patronising someone is really part of human. That why we always patronise those that are close to us, no matter the product they are selling to us. Product could be in form of good, ideal, information and even self labour.
Some people are genuine and honest in selling their products or when marketing their products, they present quality products, give quality service and sell quality goods. Theirs integrity matters a lot to them and the well being of others is also a priority to them. while others don't even care, all they are concerned in is making profits and earning money, they market substantial products and give poor service. Getting good products is a wise choice because when you spend your money on something that has quality it to your advantage cause it will last so then why do you have to patronise someone out of pity?. so even if that person is giving out a bad product, if it is out of pity you don't really care you go ahead and get the product just because you feel you should patronise the person. but on the other case, if it's our love one, or family, or close friend, that means we patronise out of force. You feel if you don't do it then that person will definitely feel bad. Yea I feel same!!. you can't buy from someone else when your friend sells same products. except that person is not really your friend as you have claimed. But the same time I feel we don't have to use our hard earn money to purchase bad and substantial products, so how do we balance it up better between the patroniser and the one whose been patronised.
WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO TO BE PATRONISED?
First, most people do not even have seller to costomer relationships I mean customers relation, the relationship you get with a customer when your doing business, and the understanding you get with customers when your into a business. Don't talk to your customers rudely always communicate with them politely. It is good to advertise your products, say nice things about the products, say things that will convince the customers to purchase the products from you and in so doing ask yourself these questions, am I selling the right products, does my product have the quality to meet what demand customer are requesting. Are these products right for the price I'm fixing them.,do they really meet up qualities as compared to market demand. After you must have analyse your products with all the above self questions then definitely you should know how to fix price for such products. Be sincere to yourself, if the product is below quality give it a lesser price. Don't try to extract money from customers in the name of business, if your customers find out that you are selling substantial products at a higher rate then they really would not return to you for business, they will definitely look for someone else, and if you stop having customers like the way you normally do before, then this is bad for business records. To be on the very safe side give your customers the best quality. one thing about customers is that ones they love patronising you, no matter how expensive the product is they will definitely buy it. And another thing here is, customers always go for the best. Also if you know that you are dealing with someone that you are selling a product to for the first time and such person bought many quantity from you then there is a need for discounts, by so doing you are encouraging the person to patronise you another time. If you are the type that sells different qualities of products please try as much as possible to explain properly to the customer the difference in quality and be honest with the price. Try not to make a fool out of a customer that is ignorance of price difference and quality difference. by so doing you have created a bridge of trust between you and the customer. One good thing about customers that love patronising you is that they would always refer their friend family and love ones to buy from you and if those they have referred love your products they would do the same by referring others. with this your business will always be a boom.
WHO MUST WE PATRONISE
It is not a bad thing to patronise those that are very close to us that are in to business but the truth is that if you spend your money on fake products and low quality products you will definitely regret it. I have being in that situation once, I had a close friend that sells good so she possibly forced me to buy from her, I never wanted to buy not because I do not like encouraging her as a new entrepreneur but because I saw I wouldn't like what she was trading but I eventually bought from her and it was no surprise to me that what I bought did not even last more than three days and I regretted why I had to spend my money on it cause for me it was a waste of finance. If you want to always patronise people you love and people you are really close to, then you have to advise them to present the best quality in the market. Market is all about compitition and not compassion. If you peatronise them out of comparison because of the fact that you know other people that do not know them will not purchase the product they present.
When we go to the market we purchase to our advantage, we try to get the best for ourselves, in terms of price and quality. When you also buy from love ones try as much as possible to also buy in your favour don't allow the fact be that you know the person your buying from so what ever way the person wants to sell to you, you would purchase it that way. OK! Howbeit that that your friend selling the product to you should also consider that you are a friend and the price at which they sell to you should be much more fairer compared to the rate they would sell to a total stranger. I advise you to always consider your self when you petronise people no matter whom they are to you.
The conclusion
It is not a bad thing to patronise people but do not displace yourself of what quality you will get. Do not pay more for a lesser price, except otherwise. And if you notice that the person you are patronising is not sincere to you, and not honest with price, just look for someone else, there are other people that needs your patronage and if someone doesn't value it go for whom will...
There are times I have patronized people even when I know I don't need the product they sell, I just do it as a form of support. And there's always an issue when too many of your friends are selling things because you want to patronize all of them and you might not be able to.
