The Different Types of Rest
Having rest is important to each and everyone of us. We need to rest emotionally, mentally, and physically to ensure that we are away from stress and other problems that might arise. Giving enough rest to our body is a means of keeping our health on the line.
However, most of us think that when we rest, we just go to sleep or maybe lay down on bed and do nothing. This is a misconception because the truth is, there are different ways to take a rest.
Did you know that there are many types of rest?
Let us dig a little more deeper about these!
1. Physical Rest
This is the first type of rest; the one that we are most familiar with. From the word itself, physical rest involves sleeping or taking naps. It could also mean this what we call active rest, such as having a yoga, having a massage, or doing stretching.
2. Mental Rest
Even if you had sufficient hours of sleep, you will still wake up tired if you did not have ways of resting your mind. Mental rest is about clearing your mind and giving it some peace. It’s about not holding thoughts that makes your head cloudy.
To help you in resting mentally, you may try writing down all your thoughts, every thing that has been bothering you. You can also try to fix your schedules and make a planner. Write down all the things that you have to do, your problems that you’re facing, the possible solutions, and especially the things that you are uncertain about. Also, try putting a break in between your work so that you’re mind can cope up.
3. Creative Rest
Yep! This type of rest exists and it is as important as the others. We have to go away from our everyday routine and try to be creative or see something creative. Creative rest can also mean appreciating the beautiful things around us—the nature, go see a museum, or enter the art and craft store and see something that might excite you. Find something to be passionate about, inspire, and be inspired.
4. Emotional Rest
Although sometimes, we have our ways of keeping our emotions and feelings away from our everyday lives, it’s also something that we have to deal with. Emotional rest isn’t about controlling our emotions, it’s about settling them and making space for more positive emotions. You can rest emotionally by having some time to deal and recognize your feelings, dealing with acceptance, and it is also a must to share it with someone who can understand.
Our feelings are valid, no matter what happens
5. Spiritual Rest
This is the kind of rest that is more than just the physical or emotional rest. It is vital in our existence to be restored and find our deeper purpose. By having spiritual rest, we can receive and give a rare kind of love, something that is nourishing and brings true joy.
You can rest spiritually by meditation or attending mass at the church, or joining others to their prayer meetings and studies.
6. Sensory Rest
In a world dominated by technology, sensory rest is important. Give yourself a time to be away from your gadgets. Though it is our hard in our current situation, you can do this before you sleep at night. Focusing on these gadgets can make us feel overwhelmed.
