Do you look before you leap or leap first before looking?

As humans, we're wired to make quick decisions in order to survive. We have to make split-second decisions about whether to jump in front of a car or run away from a bear. We have to decide whether to ask out that cute girl at the bar, or stay home and watch Netflix. We have to evaluate risks, consequences, and rewards before we leap.

When it comes to making decisions, there are always consequences. How you make one decision may affect your future choices and where you end up in life. We all know that sometimes, it's easier to just jump in and do something without thinking about it first. But when it comes to important decisions, it's important to make sure we're doing the right thing.

The best way to make sure we're making the right decision is by thinking carefully about what will happen if we do X instead of Y before we actually do it! Think about how many times you've made an impulse buy or bought something because someone else recommended it. We've all been there and then regretted our decision later. That's because we didn't take the time to think through how our purchase would affect us or others.

When you're making a big decision like whether to make that purchase or not, it's easy to get caught up in the moment and go with your gut. But when it comes to important decisions like these, your gut can be wrong. Think back on all the times you've made a bad choice because your gut told you something was right and then realized later that it wasn't. It happens all the time. And now imagine how much worse it could get if your whole life depended on one bad decision.

Personally, I prefer thinking properly before making a decision but do you know there are times when that won't be possible and you still need to decide quickly? when there's time for thought and deliberation, we can probably come up with the best option but sometimes, we find ourselves in situations where we need to make a quick decision, and we don't have time to think everything through.

Source

When that happens, we often jump immediately to our conclusion, and depending on the outcome, we might probably regret it later. In this case, it's important to know that even though you might be making a quick choice based on incomplete information, your choice will still be valid if it's based on sound reasoning and analysis.

As I said earlier, I prefer thinking properly and trying to look at the different options before making a decision, that's if there's time to do that. Now, I will give you reasons why I think jumping into a decision without proper planning is a bad idea.

  1. You might miss out on a better option. If you don't look at your options carefully before leaping, you might end up with something that doesn't fit your needs as well as another option does.

  2. You could end up regretting your decision later on down the line. If it turns out that the other option was better for you in the long run, then you'll have wasted time and money on something unnecessary.

  3. It could be dangerous! If you leap without thinking about what might happen if something goes wrong, then there's no way to know whether or not you will get hurt or if someone else will get hurt because of the hasty decision you made.

But how do we know when it's time to leap? How do we know it's time to make a decision? Well, there are a few things that can help you decide. First of all, ask yourself: Does this make sense from a financial perspective? If your business is growing fast, then it might be worth taking risks so that you can expand into new markets more quickly. But if your business isn't growing, then maybe it's better to wait until things are more stable before making any major moves.

Secondly: Think about your personal life! Are there any obstacles or problems that could arise if you went ahead with this project or idea right now? You need to be prepared for anything that might come up during the process and by "anything," I mean everything from potential job losses to possible health issues down the line, consider them carefully.

Conclusion

This is a good reminder that the consequences of our decisions are sometimes not obvious at first. As a result, it's essential that we take a step back to think them through and try to anticipate their implications before jumping in.

We shouldn't think of the impending decision as something so monumental that we can't possibly figure it out. We can and should take our time to consider all of the options, as well as try to understand our feelings towards them. In short, we should think before we leap (or don't leap in this case).

There are times before that I made decisions without thinking and considering the advantages, and disadvantages of my decisions. There are moments in my life when I rushed myself into making some decisions. But now, I learned about considering all the factors that will happen in all of my actions, and it helps me a lot to be better in all of my choices. Thank you for this article my friend! it helps a lot. ,

You're welcome! Everyone of us passed through a phase where we made rash decisions, but now we have learnt how to weigh our options before making any decision

Being able to see the other side(negative) and not just the sweet side is required in any project or a set goal. I know life is all about risk but if the risk is something that would cut off your life when it goes wrong then it's not worth it. There's need to check and balance situations first before leaping

You nailed it! Critical thinking is important because it lets us see the negative sides of things. If we just jump into something without looking first to see if there's danger, we might end up getting hurt or in the worst case; losing our life

Though I am growing older, there were still times that I leap before I look. I made rush decisions in a way that I ended up choosing the wrong one. I must say that in everything we do, risks and consequences were involve. And with that, thinking about doing or acting on it should be done many times first, before taking the actions.

Wow, thank you for this beautiful comment. Everyone makes or has made rash decisions but as we grow older, we learn from our experiences and realize it's much better to think properly before making important decisions

We've all been there where we make rash decisions in the spur of the moment. Everything requires critical thinking if we want to make the most of every situation. One of my favourite quotes says: "When a defining moment comes, define the moment or else the moment would define you." Critical thinking before taking any step is vital. We need to think things through while weighing the pros and cons.

Critical thinking is the best way to arrive at the best decision. Although we can't totally predict if that decision will work correctly due to unforeseen events, critical thinking helps to reduce the chances of failure

I love how you said it...it doesn't guarantee success but at least reduces the chances of failure. That's spot on.

On my part, I think many times first before making a decision but the reality pushes me to do it and then realize what I am doing as I am learning the best lessons of life. Thus I am sometimes looking before I leap and often times leaping before looking firsthand.

Thanks for sharing this insightful and well written article kush. Have a nice time.

I think it's perfectly normal to make decisions first before thinking about it coz that's how humans are designed but as we grow older, we learn how to think first before making any important decision

You are right, I also agree with you. that we must think before jumping. but sometimes reality speaks differently, when we design perfectly and another reality, we also have to rethink and re-plan right?
