The Wedding Gown
"MY CHILD, DON'T WEAR YOUR GOWN,"
Marta said to her daughter Ellen when they went to see Aling Thelma, who was sewing the girl's wedding dress.
“And why, mom? Is it because my marriage can't continue? ” Jane asked jokingly. “Mom. Even now, you still believe in those superstitions. ”
Martha just shook her head. He is from a large province so he knows a lot of superstitions and traditions, which she tries to pass on to her daughter.
"There's nothing wrong with us obeying," Martha replied gently. “Look at what happened to your Aunt Belen. There! Old maiden. ”
Belen, Martha's older sister, was well-known throughout their family. This is because their relatives love to talk about it, especially when it comes to marriage and superstitions. When Belen was a young girl, she would have married a rich haciendero. But because of not believing in superstitions, she wear her wedding dress the night before the wedding. Their mother was horrified to see the girl. Belen delivered a powerful shout but she just laughed at all of them. The next day, her wedding day, she saw her fiancé floating in the river. Dead, victim of holdups.
Another always cited example of Martha is Ellen’s cousin Betty. The two women were about the same age, growing up together. It’s been two years since Betty’s wedding to her boyfriend Jake was set. The wedding was well prepared because the man's family was well -off. Expenses from clothes to banquet.
Unfortunately, on the day of the wedding, Jake suddenly fainted. He was rushed to the hospital but it was too late.
Ruptured aneurysm seems to be the cause. A vein in his head ruptured causing inflammation of his brain.
Betty's crying was indescribable. Her parents and friends tried to comfort her, convincing her that she was not married to what had happened. But they got nothing to answer when Betty said she wear her wedding gown the night before the wedding. Even her parents were silent.
Ellen is not a superstitious person, and she only laughs at people who believe in them. But now that she is getting married, she will make sure that it will be successful and will not be forgotten. If she had to follow superstitions she would. Her mother was right.
Nothing bad if obeyed
It was also Ellen's wedding day. She was excited to wear her wedding gown. She didn't know if it would fit her or if it was too tight. She followed her mother's wishes and did not wear it.
"Do not worry. That’s enough! ” said Martha cheerfully.
Ellen was not breathing up the zipper of her dress at the back.
"Hey, why aren't you breathing?" asked Aling Thelma laughing at the maiden's appearance.
Ellen let out a suppressed breath and felt the dress wear off.
"Enough!" almost exclaimed she said. She looked carefully at her appearance in the mirror.
"Your beautiful child."
You're right, mom, Ellen thought. How would Julius react when he saw me?
Ellen and Marta were riding in a beautiful white car that had been borrowed by one of their adopted godparents. They were on the highway and on their way to church.
“Your Aunt Belen is texting. They are all said to be there. We are the only ones waiting, ”said Marta.
“Let them wait. It won't start without us,” Ellen replied with a laugh.
Suddenly Ellen's cellphone in her bag rang. She picked it up quickly and smiled at the sight of Julius calling to herm
"Hello, hon," Ellen greeted happily.
"Hon, are you close," the man replied.
“Yes. Maybe it's only 15 minutes. ”
“Good. Last night I was excited! ”
"Just last night?" Ellen asked sullenly. "I was a month ago!"
Julius laughed.“ That’s what I want from you, comedian. By the way, do you know that the jacket I sewed is small for me. ”
"Hah," Ellen said in shock. "Oh, did you wear it properly?"
"Of course! Good luck to you and I visited the seamstress last night and I measured the barong. ”
Ellen didn't know why but she suddenly felt scared.
"H-Hah?" Her hand was shaking and she couldn't seem to hear Julius' voice. She just stared at her mother who was obviously wondering at her reaction.
“… Has been adjusted yet. So it's okay, I'm tired! ” happy story of the man.
Ellen couldn't answer. Suddenly her throat went dry and her tongue seemed to weigh down.
"Hon, are you still there?"
Ellen took a deep breath. "Yes, hon." She held the cellphone with both hands and pressed it firmly to hwr ear. "Did I hear it right? Did you wear your jacket last night? ”
“Yes. Small cas- “
Ellen never heard the next one because a truck crashed into their car. She did not realize that she had let go of the cellphone. She felt nothing as her head hit the windshield and his blood spread inside the car. She did not know that several times their car spun and several bones in her body were broken.
The only thing on her mind was about Julius's coat. Barong weared by the man last night.
Superstitions were not true, she thought before her breath ends.
