Why art therapy is an important thing to do amidst the pandemic?

This trying times caused a lot of conflicts not only to our nation as a whole but also to every individuals who suffer from the detrimental of their physical, emotional and mental health. It can lead to depression, anxiety or any other form of destruction to our well-being. Such that, we are obliged to cope with it through various ways while staying at home to be safe from the threat of Covid-19 Virus. One of this is through engaging ourselves in art.

Indeed, anyone who feels overwhelmed or pressured by the hectic world we live in should try art therapy. According to some studies, creating art stimulates the release of dopamine, a chemical that is released when we do something pleasurable, making us feel happier. As being said, this increased levels of good-feeling neurotransmitter can be very helpful to battle anxiety or depression. Also, art therapy improves the mental health of people who are dealing with addictions, anxiety, attention disorders, grief and loss, dementia, depression, eating disorders, physical illness, PTSD, trauma, relationship issues and so much more.

Furthermore, art therapy is not about becoming a great artist yourself. It is about finding meaning and connection in your life. All you need for it is a willingness to do it and experiment its variety of modes and medium which can help you to ease the challenges or trials you are dealing with. Additionally, since art is the process of self-discovery, an individual can boost his/her self-esteem, provides safe outlet to relieve emotions, gives a sense of control over one's life, aid to get to know and understand oneself better and help in acknowledging and recognizing feelings that have been lurking within one's subconscious.

To conclude, eventhough we are facing this difficult times in our life, it is on us on how we were going to deal with the conflicts it brings. It takes a lot of effort and time to do so; however, its result is substantially beneficial. Always remember that there are lots of coping mechanisms we can do to survive and heal the broken pieces of ourselves. Just be positive at all times and do not ever think of giving up no matter how hard the life is.
