The Appeal of Honesty

SIMPLE and sincere honesty brings attraction. The power of personal development seems to be with you, even if the person you are in is not well educated or financially good.

This is illustrated by what happened a few years ago. A well-trained doctor in the United States set an example of honesty for his children: a taxi driver! The doctor read that the taxi driver returned the owner two bags of jewelry that had been left in his cabin. Then he wrote to the taxi driver's children: “I have three children. Hope you are so proud of me in my business. ""

This honesty is very good and commendable. On the other hand, self-respecting people are quick to condemn obvious violations of honesty. They hate theft and find nothing attractive in the practice.

When interviewed they probably can't say exactly why theft doesn't appeal to them, it just seems wrong. But they also know that theft, shoplifting, tax evasion, etc. cost "honest" citizens billions of dollars each year in police protection plus taxes on goods and services. Dishonesty creates a climate of fear that no one can trust. Therefore, it is understandable that the apparent dishonesty does not attract decent people.

But that's all there is to say in terms of honesty: that one should not take personal property from third parties without their permission, that it is wrong to deceive the government, and that does anyone have to return the lost property to the owner? Hardly. Much more is involved.
