Bisola and I went to the same highschool we became close friends in my second year, so I became interested to know how her winning story began.

It started off when she saw a flier for a speech competition, it got her interested and she applied.

On her arrival at Mr Adesola's office who was incharge of Mentoring students, after explaining to him of her interest;

He said Bisola what this mean is that you're going to fail even if you do great, like this math isn't going to work out and he asked "why would you even want to to this?

She's like well I just feel like I have to do something and he kept bugging her on why she wants to do it. She tried dodging most of the questions and finally opened up and said "because if I dont do this now I dont know know if I will ever be able to speak up", so it is you who would help me.

She was told by her teacher that it wasnt going to be easy and she wasnt going to do great because she hasnt practised with all those people.

So after so much deliberation he replied to her on what strategy he would take "if you are really committed then I will put your name down" and he told her if you will be participating you're gonna come out last and you are going to do great and everyday between now and the show day you have to come to my office every single day for 4 hours and we are going to work together to give you a better presentation and performance.

He was actually trying to convince her not to do it coz he wouldn't want to deal with such at the moment, and he never really knew when he said 4hours to her, she was like Okay.

So she was given starks of materials to go through and her teacher told her to read all everyday then come in and we would film you to make sure you are awesome and this will be done every single day, she agreed to all he said.

Bisola kept going everyday, coming with an outline she prepared to speak on and it was an epic struggle for those hours to get her out of her shell. She would always be terrified to speak because she's never ever been encouraged to share her voice or opinion.

Everyday felt like it was taking her through from a low point of emotion to try and lift her up bacuse she was scared.

Bisola had lived a tough life, beaten up by life struggles, had lost both parent and there was no one to talk to, so her voice has been suppressed her whole life to a low level and was not allowed to share who she was and who she aspired to become. So everyday felt like a walkthrough with her teacher when he always tries to give her that little confidence boost and competency which is a delicate cure to self-esteem and it went on further each day.

It was unbelievable that she would go from low to start feeling good, to her starting off the practice felt pretty good and amazing and after going through a series of content she would stop, forgetting all she had planned to say and cries anytime or moment it happens or freak out. She quoted to me all she had learned from her teacher about faith and courage especially when he told her

"there must always be something to stand on or else you get tired."

Few days passed and he began to see the good in her and he was certain she would kill it and overtake those other competitors even hearing her speak would be amazing and unbelievable. He wa so proud of her progress since they started practise and was excited for what she would do on that day.

On the day of the presentation, she happened to be missing. You could tell that her teacher was really because I was also present in the hall, after going through a lot for her but at the same time breathed a sign of relieve coz i knew he wouldn't have to watch her make a fault.

The first speaker began with an introduction and started off with his presentation immediately the door opened here she was coming to take her seat. She was extremely frightened but I still tried to have a direct eye contact with her to calm her down. She then approached her seat and just shrunk down and everybody was surprised after the warmth welcome by the judges, they had not known she would compete.

After the first speaker was done it was a standing ovation and at the same time people became perplexed like "is she going to speak?"

After all had spoken it was then her turn.

She approached the podium and started murmuring some words before she picked up few statements from what was in front of her.

For the first few minutes she spoke well rushing up some few points then she Froze, completely lost

And I kept seeing her coach look at her like "she's got this" many whispered"she's gonna fail".

After few moment of deep thinking she came back strong again and got her confidence, it was completely astonishing. Immediately it was all over Nobody stood up, everybody was lost and dumbfounded.

On her way to her seat she noticed the silence and and that nobody was clapping, and thought to herself what exactly did I just do? She didn't even know what she did her self.

After few minutes there was a missive standing ovation with everybody clapping loud and long for her. It was indeed amazing and unbelievable, from afar you could see her crying and emotional.

She told me the whole experience she had was when she realized that she's got potentials, for 17 years of her life it was total unbelive.

When she met the teacher he cried so loud and came to give her a hug and told her that what he sees in her is far bigger than what she sees in herself.

Who are you today?

Have you been told you cant achieve anything?

Have you given up even in the midst of achieving your dreams?

She was declared the winner of the competition.

Let this story speak one or two things to you, Bisola almost gave up but never did. There is a you only you sees but others dont, dont feel intimidated to come out of your shadows.

The End

Even if people discourage us, we need to find ourselves and believe in who we are. Someone out there is going to believe us when we start unleasing the potential in us. Courage is all we need.
