The silent owl

In search of a meal, owls come quietly at high speed without the hiss that most birds make when they fly. Recently, Silent Owl has been studied by engineers looking for a way to reduce compressor noise in jet engines. They examined the owl's wing and found it in a unique way, which caused the owl to fly towards one of the world's quietest birds. Engineers want to saw or cut the edges of the motor rotor blades to prevent a sound-generating groove from forming. "The owl," commented Product Engineering magazine, "inspired the engineers."
