The Philippines is an original member of the United Nations, the World Trade Organization, the Southeast Asian Nations Organization, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, and the East Asian Presidency. The Asian Development Bank headquarters is also here. The Philippines is considered a new industrialized country, where there is an economy changing from an agricultural one to a more services-based one. The Philippines is one of the only two countries in Southeast Asia where Christianity is the main faith. That one is East Timor.
Government corruption, environmental degradation, waste, unemployment, high numbers of people and extra-judicial killings or killings of people who criticize or oppose the government are major problems in the Philippines. Terrorist groups such as the Abu Sayyaf and the BIFF in Mindanao and the New People's Army are also causing problems in the country.
