Pigafetta also called Taytay "La Tierra de Promisos" or "Land of Promise" because of the area's rich agriculture they were saved from starvation. He also told of the first time he saw a different game of the natives where they bet and fight two chickens or the so-called soap.
Taytay's name is derived from the "Talaytayan" or wooden bridge or bamboo used by indigenous people on the other side.
In 1623 or more than a century later the Spaniards returned to the town. The joint military and religious expedition was led by friars Francisco de San Nicolas, Ezekiel Moreno (now St. Ezekiel) and Diego Sta. Ana; and Hermano de la Madre de Dios. There Taytay was formally established until the missionaries led the people to the Christian faith and made Sta. Monica is also the patron of the Rekoletos.
