History of Edsa People Power Revolution 1986

1 18

The People's Revolution (People Power Revolution), also called the EDSA Revolution of 1986, was a peaceful demonstration that lasted four days in the Philippines, from February 22 to February 25 of that year. The revolution was rooted in a series of people's protests against Ferdinand Marcos's dictatorship, especially when Ninoy Aquino was assassinated in 1983. Many people participated in it — civilians, military and church members such as by Jaime Cardinal Sin. This led to the overthrow of dictatorial government by President Ferdinand Marcos and Corazon Aquino's successor to Marcos' position. Demonstrations took place at EDSA (Avenue of Epifanio de los Santos), an important road in Greater Manila.
