Rape has become so rampant in the society which needs to be looked into. Rape has become something most of the girls pass through and they are subjected to Duress. What then is Rape? According to English dictionary it means the taking of someone by force especially for sexual purposes, the act of forcing sexual intercourse on someone without their consent.
According to section 357 of the criminal code Any person who has unlawful carnal knowledge of a woman or girl, without her consent, or with her consent, if the consent is obtained by force or means of threats and intimidation of any kind, or by fear of harm, or by means of false and representation as to the nature of the act is called Rape.
We have had several cases of rape in the society which is even ongoing as at this present moments in the society many young girls are subjected to rape which might even lead to loss of their lives as happened in recent cases while most of them who are victims are traumatized for life. Being raped is not easy that feeling of having an unwanted child at a very tender or having a child who tends to be a bastard.
We have 717 cases of rape in Nigeria within 5months which should not be so we see cases of a 70yr old man raping a small child or secondary school children students trying to rape their fellow classmates, a very prominent judge in our country was said to have been raped by 13mens how do we expect such a woman to enjoy her life definitely she cant because she will be traumatized for life because of her hatred for men.
And also the Judiciary should not hesitate to look into the laws when a rape case is brought before them because rape is a grievious crime and it should be controlled because according to section 358 of the criminal code it states that the punishment for rape is liable to imprisonment for life, with or without canning.
Lets stop the violence, lets save our girls, lets stop rape!.
