Depression - The Easiest Way Out

Once, I scribbled, "No matter how tough it gets, I will never walk out of life."

Obvious option? Suicide.

Yes, you read right. Definitely, suicide may hurt during attempt but just temporarily and then, you become numb to the agony of this life.

Nonetheless, although suicide gifts humans exit from mortality; majority of its Victims still walk the streets. This is centred on the basis that life transcends beyond the breath of oxygen into our dreams and aspirations, constituting our identity.

Plainly, YOUR DREAMS ARE YOU.

We readily call those who bid mortality farewell by treading the suicidal path 'COWARDS' until we realise that we are no different. Thus, when next you are about to twist your nose at the news of another case, confirm that you are not infected.

Perhaps we refrain from using the dangling rope or gulping down liquids or self-cuts; nevertheless, every trade on our ideas for something lesser produces the same result. Every time we bury our aspirations in order not to be seen as ambitious, we attune to suicide. When for want of hope, we trash our dreams, it's no different from the former. Eventually, we become shadows of ourselves, alienated from our dreams which become a mere distant echo.

Too careful to live; a shadow of oneself.

Good news! There is hope for us all....Our dreams can be given a new life. All it takes is a fresh breath--You can always draw strength from God to live above your fears and worries. It is not over until it is over. Step up!

Sometimes, we tell ourselves lies, "I'm not good enough", "it is impossible", "I do not deserve it."

Other times, we compare ourselves with everyone else, "She has it better off." " I just want to be like her".

Oh Dear! If only you knew the demons we respectively have to fight daily then you will be content in being you.

Just like a dose of sniper, these lies kill from inside out - Suicide. With each lie, we dig even deeper than 6ft to bury our dreams; or just may be, we prefer to burn it and scatter the ashes upon waters.

I was told, based on certain belief systems, that until you bury a body, the spirit roams the earth. They say, it is only liberated upon fulfillment of the last rites. Perhaps this ideology permeates our lives and fuels the belief that in burying our dreams, we liberate ourselves.

"My children will do better" - we console. This seems to explain the rationale behind some of our parents insistence on having us adopt their relative templates as against the life we truly desire. Unfortunately, we incorporate these alien dictates hoping for the future to live out our own lives. The hard truth is that there is no end to this cycle, however, the possibility of a break out does exists.

Friends, liberty lies only in the unleashing of our dreams and not otherwise. Thus, consider it a crime against yourself whenever you deprive us of your worth and the fulfillment of your dreams.

In Nigeria, suicide as well as attempted suicide is a crime. Actually, I often consider this hilarious, "if only our law makers knew that there are more prisoners roaming the streets than they are behind bars."

To be continued...
