In the past, if we wanted to know the answer to a question, if the people around us did not know it, we would have to sit and read various books. But with the change of era, the means of finding answers has also changed. Now we don't have to read books to get any more answers. We can easily find what we need through the internet. There are various websites in this world of internet. Each website also has web pages containing text, images, videos or various types of media. When we enter web sites, we add a prefix called WWW dot, knowingly or unknowingly at the beginning. As a result, we get access to the web pages of the website. The significance of this prefix is ​​unknown to many of us. The full form of WWW is the World Wide Web. Using the World Wide Web, information scattered around the world is easily within our reach. Recently, the World Wide Web has crossed 30 years of success. We don't know what the World Wide Web is, how the revolution started, how the World Wide Web works, what ingredients it is made of, let's go from today's blog.

What is the World Wide Web?

The World Wide Web is also called The Web. It is basically a database created by connecting the information scattered on different servers of the world to each other with the help of internet. A user can access web pages with the help of various web browsers and provide and receive instructions using hyperlinks. The process of connecting these hypertext documents to each other via the Internet is known as the World Wide Web. Web pages are used to view web pages with text, images, videos or any other type of multimedia. English physicist Tim Berners-Lee, now director of the World Web Consortium, wrote a proposal in March 1989, adopting the idea of ​​a hypertext system. This proposal later gave rise to the World Wide Web. Tim Berners-Lee's work was later joined by Belgian scientist Robert Kailiau. At the time, they were both working at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland. In a proposal published in December 1990, they mentioned that using hypertext as a means of gathering information from links and the web, a user could navigate the web as he wished. The World Wide Web has expanded the vast array of scattered information through the Internet. As a result, the importance of the World Wide Web in making the Internet popular is undeniable. But keep in mind that the Internet and the World Wide Web are not the same thing. The web is an application based on the Internet.

How does the web work?

The first thing to do to visit a webpage is to go to a browser and type in the URL of the website or follow a hyperlink. The web browser then starts exchanging messages for successful communication. As a result, the web page comes in front of us. The part of the URL that contains the server name contains the IP address. It uses a universal Internet database known as the Domain Name System. The IP address is important for sending data packets to the web server. The browser then submits the HTTP application to the web server at the specified address. The web browser then delivers the application for the required file containing text, image, video or any other media. After the applications reach the web server, they are sent to the browser and the browser adjusts the screen according to HTML, CSS and other web languages. Most of the pages already have their own hyperlinks that link to other related pages and important things including downloads. The sum of these necessary interconnected hyperlinks is called the web. Tim Berners-Lee was the first to name the World Wide Web.

History of the World Wide Web

Sir Tim Berners-Lee created the World Wide Web in 1989 while working at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland. He didn’t just stop here. He has worked tirelessly to improve other areas of the web. The HTTP we currently use is a kind of markup language. Sir Tim Berners-Lee also played a role in creating this markup language. Web pages can be designed and composed using HTTP. His contribution to the creation of the Semantic Web is also worth mentioning. On November 12, 1990, with the help of Robert Kailiao, he made an official proposal to the World Wide Web.

Some important elements of the web

HTML

The full form of HTML is HyperText Markup Language. HTTP is the standard markup language for creating web pages and web applications. With the help of CSS, Cascading Style Sheets and JavaScript, it creates some great technologies for the World Wide Web. Web browsers collect HTML documents from web servers or local storage and render the documents to multimedia webpages. HTML explains the structure of a web page. HTML can also embed programs written in scripting languages ​​like JavaScript. CSS is used to create content people and layouts. The World Wide Web Consortium or W3C, which oversees HTML and CSS standards, has been promoting the use of CSS over HTML since 1997.

Web page

A web page is a type of document that is suitable for the World Wide Web and web browsers. Web browsers display web pages in front of the user on a monitor or mobile device. Web pages can contain any type of multimedia content ranging from text, images, videos. There are two types of web pages. One is a static web page and the other is a dynamic web page. Static web pages that are stored are therefore displayed as web content on the web server's file system. Web applications are used on dynamic web pages. These web applications are managed by server side software. In dynamic web pages, web pages are enhanced based on client input.

Website

A website is a collection of web resources, including web pages and other multimedia content. They have a common domain name and are published on a web server. They are accessed via the Internet or private local area networks or public Internet Protocol networks or IP networks such as LAN. Each of them has a Uniform Resource Locator or URL to identify them.

Web browser

A web browser is a software user agent for accessing information on the World Wide Web. The user needs a web browser program to retrieve information from the website's server and display it on the screen. This program allows the user to download and format web pages and display them on his screen.

Web server

A web server is a server software or hardware that can receive and respond to client requests from the World Wide Web. A web server can usually contain one or more websites. Web servers can process network requests for HTTP and other protocols. In other words, the main job of a web server is to process the web pages and deliver them to the client. Communication between the client and the server takes place through the HyperText Transfer Protocol.

HTTP cookies

The function of the HTTP cookie is to store the tiny data sent from the website to the user's computer so that the data can be reused during the next use. These data can be names, addresses, passwords or credit card numbers. Web servers can use authentication cookies to determine if a user has logged in. However, in some cases, these web cookies are a barrier to security.

Search engine

Web search engine or internet search engine is a software system that can accept web search. It can systematically search for specific information on the World Wide Web in specific web search queries. Search engines tailor search results to the user. However, there are some content that these general search engines cannot search. Those are the contents of the Deep Web.

Deep web

The Deep Web is also called the Invisible Web or Hidden Web. Contains content that is not indexed in standard web search engines. The opposite of the Deep Web is the Surface Web. The web we usually browse through the internet is the surface web. Deep Web content is hidden behind HTTP phones and provides webmail, online banking or any type of service for which the user has to pay which is protected by Pay Wall. Examples include video on demand, online magazines, online magazines, etc.

The world wide web is a combination of the above mentioned elements. It is through the World Wide Web that we can access the desired information using these elements. Although it has many downsides, the purpose of its discovery was never to perform bad deeds.
