The UNISDR defines diseaster as,"A serious disruption of functioning of a community or a society involving widespread human,material, economic or environmental losses & impacts,which exceed the ability of the affected community or society to cope using its own resources"
Diseaster impacts may include loss of life,injuries,disease & other negative effects on human physical,mental and social well being,together with demage property,destruction of assets, loss of services,social and economic disruption & environmental degredation
Emergencies and diseaters do not only affect health and well being of people,frequently large number of people displaced,killed or injured or subjected to greater risk of epidemics.Considerable economic harm to the exciting infrastructure & threaten the future of sustainable development.
Diseasters are not confined to a particular part of the world,they can occur any where at any time.
Types of Diseasters
1.Natural Hazards
a)Geophysical:Earthquake,volcano,Tsunami
b)Hydrological:Flood,Landslide, wave
c)Meteorological:Cyclone,strom,surge,Tornado,high wind,extratropical strom,cold wave,extremely temperatur, heavy rain,Lightenin, snow,ice strom etc
d)Climatological:Drought,Forest wildfire,Glacical lake out burst
d)Biological:viral,Bacterial,fungal infestations
2.Human-induced disasters
Arising accident from(industry,road,rail,air,bus,on sea or river etc)
Fires in building or industry
Building collapse
Chemical Burst
The rise in population rapid urbanisation
Types of disaster generally seen in Bangladesh
cyclone,flood, landslide, drought earthquake,fires building collapse etc.
How can we decrease the demages?
1)prevention and elevation of consequences
a)Forecasting the disaster by using modern technology
b)Ascertaining the risk by Periodically and enlisting the support of various social groups
c)Evacuation of people to the nearest safe shelter
immediate emergency care
a)Whatever the type of this the local authority is required to set up an emergency community.
b)The first priority following a disaster should be the care of the injured
management of the aftermath
a)Environment Sanitation
b)Public Health monitoring
c)Vaccination against six major children diseases.
d)Food and nutrition
than last one Rehabilitation and Reconstruction
Reconstruction and Rehabilitation are time consuming.
Statistical information on the following points is required-
Before the planning for reconstruction number of affected person,geographical distribution, damage to water supply
Health centre number and standard of house destroyed available manpower material equipment and financial sources
The authorities responsible for rehabilitation should establish priorities reconstruct road and public building execute programs for replacing destroyed housing.
We should alert in the moment of diseaster.We should help each other how much we can during the moment of crisis.Local authorities & our government should be taken necessary steps to reduce the damage.
