  • Definition of depression

Depression is a serious medical illness or disorder that causes an abnormal feeling of sadness, emptiness, and loss of interest.

  • Could be genetics (biological causes).You're likely to get depressed if someone in your family has it like your dad, mom. Depression is just like happiness, it's genetic.

  • Factors such as poverty, unemployment, negative family background can lead to depression.

  • Stages of depression

  • Depression has stages

  • Denial and Isolation ;

are normally short-term when related to depression. The feelings of extreme sadness can be hard to ignore. But patients still ignore the issue, often believing that if there is a problem, they will just get over it.

  • When denial wears off, anger sets in because you realize you cannot overcome feelings of depression and you are even angry with the world.

  • Bargaining ;

happens when depression takes on its own life and reveals horrible things about yourself. You try to negotiate away thoughts created by depression and replace them with positivity.

Depression creates a sensation of isolation as if you are lost in the wilderness with no direction.

  • The final stage is acceptance, which means you have finally made peace with the reality of your mental illness.

  • Symptoms of Depression

  • Excessive sleepiness or insomnia

  • Petulance

The best way to overcome depression is get yourself busy with things you love, in that way you may divert your attention from what make you depressed into the activities of the day. You can enroll in for cooking course, or go running, if you're alone, this will worsen depression.

  • Channel all the energy you have inside to do something right, something you love to do: write, cook, sing, run, dance.

  • Focus on the positive and happy memory. Concentrating negative memory will make you more depressed , simply try to concentrate on the happy moment.

    • Find the root of your pain or depression. You should try to pinpoint the reason you are in that state of mind.

  • Then, talk to someone about it or write them down (express yourself , your pains, and your fear). Take action not to let yourself depress anymore

  • Try to move on

  • Exercise.

  • Yes, exercise has helped most people cope with depression. Results show that people who do exercise regularly are more free from depression than people who do not.
