Children As Gifts

When you are given a gift, it is at your discretion as the receiver to use it the way you deem fit. It might suit you to trample on it, pass it on to another person, throw it away, or better still; make good use of it. Which ever way, the giver has limited power over gift thereafter

"Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him.-Psalm 127:3(NLT)"

Anyone who receives children may choose to handle them whichever way he or she deems fit. However, the rewards or consequences of our methods of parenting come to us first. The scripture says:

to discipline a child produces wisdom, but a mother is disgraced by an undisciplined child (Proverbs 29:15)

The rewards or consequences of parenting is not only to mothers. An undisciplined child is also a disgrace to the father because he bears his name. As rightly said "any father living who would not take part in parenting is as good as dead." - Arolowo

It is not only a child's biological mother or father that should be involved in parenting. Parenting is something young adults who expect to have children in the future should be involved in while they are still single.

Whether we have children or look forward to having them, we are to be on the lookout for and nurture the young ones in our sphere of influence. We should join hands with the parents around us to bring out best in their children.

We are not to take our eyes off the misbehaviour of a child around us without correcting it. This is because a child might never know that his or her behavior is wrong until someone tells him/her.

When we all work at bringing up children around us to love God; we are making the world safe for ourselves, our societies and our future.

Meditation:

Whatsoever you do to the least of my brothers, that you do unto me says the Lord. So when I nurture children, I do it unto God.

Prayer:

Dear heavenly Father, give me a heart that seeks to nurture every child I come across in Jesus name.

Confession: I am a responsible parent/parent in the making.
