The EKO- dream

πŸŽ₯: me

A typical Nigerian would tell you that the streets are hard but a Lagosian as we are fundly called would tell you that streets are for the insane and crazy. From the traffic to the hustle, from the island to the mainland, from agege to Lagos island, from iyamoriya amala buka to KFC, the Lagos lifestyle never goes to sleep; the hustle the grind never stops never settles.

Visiting Lagos ? Note these

The streets of Lagos

Know when to switch up personality because you would need it : there is a popular saying you need to be crazy to survive in Nigeria but you need extra craziness to even stand in Lagos. Let me explain; the commercial buses you would enter i Lagos would give you your first challenge. The bus ticket collector guy would try to hustle you to get more you have to be able to switch like a mad person and show him that you aren’t new in Lagos; that way he would back up and act normal. Failure to do so would mean you would lose your change and even get one slap for consolation if you don’t take your time.πŸ˜‚

It gets even funnier With the street boys or thugs on the road side stopping commercial buses for β€œowo boys” which means β€œboys money” make sure you are careful around them. If they sell an hint as regards the fact that you are new to the city they would sure exploit you either by intimidation or by acting nicely to gain your trust before they steal from you.

Now another important point you want to note do not ask anybody you see for directions. Most people don’t even know where they are going they would probably give you a wrong direction or ignore you. If you need directions you should probably ask google or find a law enforcement officer who you can ask for directions and be sure to bless them when you have gotten the answers you wanted.

The Lagos lifestyle

πŸŽ₯; me

This beautiful EKO city as popular called by the Yorubas owing to the fact that they are the original habitants of Lagos is a vibrant city full with opportunities. The most popular city in Africa with the finest and best set of entertainer Africa has to offer. Lagos oh my Lagos; a city where you can not easily deduce who is rich and who is struggling because everyone puts on a act. A city where the fake is quick to oppress the original. A city where only the strong and crazy would survive. The city that is divided in showcase of wealth but United in responses to intimidation to wealth. In Lagos we have the island and the mainland.

The island 🏝

This is an area populated by the rich powerful and famous of the society. The housing cost is almost unimaginable; in this part of Lagos you would find the most extravagant lifestyle, the rich, the famous, the prestigious, the fakers πŸ˜‚, the wanna-bees all of that glamour and glitz is what this part of Lagos known as the island has to offer. If you are a medium salary earner thinking of moving to Lagos, do not bother finding accommodation in these sort of areas . Why? β€œ the presuure choke” :- a lot of exotic and luxurious cars the types you see on the Fast and furious series are seen on a regular basics in this part of Lagos. The buildings available for sale or rent are mostly at higher prices, furnishing the place is another hard nut to crack talk more of living in such exotic place you would do well to settle down in a place were you can afford and not feel the pressures of the rich .

βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–

Kids from this part of Lagos think differently. They are accustomed to the rich lifestyle. Most of them don’t even do what we mainlanders do like eating in buka( local restaurants by the road side) or take commercial buses. I have a friend who told me that his cousins had never had to use the commercial bus in their life before. Matter of fact they don’t know what commercial buses are πŸ₯². Can you in imagine ? In this same Lagos ?. The long story short is the islanders are a different breed .

The mainland breed πŸ˜‚:- we

Source: a friend

A typical mainland is a ghetto in Lagos : here is where you find the young hawking, the woman on the road side selling pure drinking water in sachets, the thugs hustling commercial bus drivers, the police hustling the thugs, commercial bus drivers and anybody who stands in their way and of course the typical main land lagosian trying to make ends meet.

You see we mainlanders pride ourselves in the fact that we have thickener skin and can survive almost anything. The harsh wether, the constant struggle, the traffic, the noise from cars, buses, tricycles, trailers , motor cycles and even machines around the area can be sure to cause distraction. As a person born and raised on the mainland of Lagos I have easily adapted to the rough and rather rigorous lifestyle of this part of Lagos. This is because the streets teaches you over and over with hard method to learn how to maneuver your way in Lagos , how to play dumb or smart when the need arises and how to switch it up like a mad person πŸ˜‚.

βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–

Amidst all these tuzzle and hustle I won give up my Lagos for any other city in the world. Lagos is the best city to me. It signifies home, safety and comfort.

I just told you about the things to expect when you first arrive in Lagos be sure to look out for the concluding part of this article where I talk more about my city of dreams . EKO the one and only.

Thank you for your time as always

Peace ❀️

Lagos! Hahaha. I would have grown up I. Lagos but you know life has it own way. But I can testify to the hustle and bustle of Lagos Oshodi, mushin, ikotun, ikeja, computer village Hahaha. Compared to the luxury life at lekki, island, and some other places. I would say Lagos is a center. You choose the life you wish to live based on your pocket and get used to it

You described Lagos so well hahaha. I've always lived in Ibadan and all through my life I only come to Lagos to visit but I never knew I would settle in Lagos some day and here I am. I am a private and quiet person so I like my environment to give me mental quietness πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ€£ but this Lagos enh...everything is competitive. It's stressful but I am loving it so far.

Ibadan is quiet and things are relatively cheap too unlike Lagos. Living in Lagos has pushed me to double up to earn twice even thrice as much else, you will end up with nothing to go home with πŸ€£πŸ€£πŸ˜‚
