Article #17.

Hello once again.

I am back with a tutorial for Ear Savers.

The new normal requires us to wear face masks. Since the start of this pandemic, many, especially the frontliners, like the doctors and nurses have been wearing face masks the whole day. The loop of the mask makes the ears sensitive, irritated and some have developed into a wound. Having an ear saver saves their ears from such irritation by placing the loop of the mask not directly into the ears but into the buttons that are at both ends of the ear savers.

Here below is the tutorial I made for the ear savers. Please note that the tutorial assumes that you already know the basics of crochet.

First is to make a chain of 28.

In round 1, you have to crochet two half-double crochet into the second chain from hook.

Then continue by making half-double crochet in the next 25 chains.

In the last chain, do 4 half-double crochet. This will make your work turn to the other side of the chain.

And again half-double crochet in the next 25 chains.

On the last chain do a 2 half-double crochet. This time join the round with a slip stitch .

For round 2, you will start with one chain and two single crochet on the same stitch and another two single crochet on the next stitch of the previous round.

Continue by making single crochet in the next 25 stitches.

And then 2 single crochet in each of the next four stitches.

And again continue across by doing single crochet in the next 25 stitches.

And on the last 2 stitches do 2 single crochet in each stitch. Join the round by making a slip stitch.

And that's it. Add buttons at both ends of the finished work.

You now have an ear saver.

Since the start of the pandemic, I have made more than 300 pieces of this ear savers and was donated to frontliners in various hospital.

I also accept commission from my friends.

Want to try this, so simple and easy.

Let's get crafting!

Oo I have seen many of these around. So nice of you to donate to the frontliners. Thank you for sharing the tutorial. They do look easy to make and we can have different colours too to suit our garment for the day :) Hope things will get better soon. It is worrying to hear different strains of the virus that are hardier than the earlier ones.
