Find what hour suits you best

A great amount of people has kept their daily routine the same as always, either because It was the only one they have ever knew or because others did It like that too. However, there's a reductive quality to performing the same things without regard for efficiency which will also affect your productivity. It can either put your work in a time of the day where you already feel fatigued because of previous activities or It can be far away from the hours in which you have the greatest amount of focus and creativity. That's why in this article I will talk about the importance of tracking down how you spend the day, all to figure out which time slot is better for each activity taking into consideration your energy reserves. Let's begin by taking into account a concept known as peak time:

What Is Peak Time?

This is the specific period of time, specifically those 90 minutes in which you consider you are acting in the most effective way, making your work without distractions and using your resources in a precise manner. It can be early in the morning when you begin to work or late into the night when you might feel your creative juices flowing better. The problem you might find when you begin to track how you act in the day is that you might be using that time for menial tasks, which don't even encompass what you really want to become better at. So better make sure to take that into account the first factor to seek.

Now that we know exactly our mission and the things to look at, you can still have interrogant of how you might track your day in an effective manner so you can indentify those hours in which you are the most productive, so we'll dig deeper into how to create an effective day tracking method.

How do I track my day?

Well, you can use whatever tool you like, from evernote to Microsoft Excel; the important thing is to set a system in which you can check the specific intervals of time you spend doing each activity and your levels of energy during that period. As an example of this:

Figure 1: Day Tracking Example

You can see that each of these fields symbolizes a particular area, for the first one you can see the specific hours of the day that you use for the activities in the second field and in the second you can interpret how you feel after finishing each one in terms of energy. If you try to look at the periods of time in which It would be better to perform the most cognitively demanding tasks you might find that the period from 6:30 to 8:00am is the best time to do so. In this way you'll see with less effort where in the day you have the best results with regards to what you do.

I hope that this article could have been of use to you, giving you reasons as to why keep an account of whatever you do in the day so you can recognize your weakness and your strengths with regards to the usage of your time, all so you can become a more productive and effective person, reminding you that It is not about working all day, though to make the most of the limited hours we have with smart decisions. Thank you for your support and good luck!
