What College doesn't teach you
Debt for old knowledge
We find ourselves in a point of time where following the traditional path of going to college seems less of an option for getting success in life, as prices of tuition are unaffordable and even unreasonable for most of young people, knowing that as long as they graduate, the only thing they will face is a lot of debt and the uncertainty of having learned something in the progress. Along with this, the way in which people and companies work has shifted from tiresome office work to simply hiring freelancers for specifical tasks, freelancers that have learned all that has to be known about a business through experience and the use of good sources in the Internet. Not to take off from the value that a career could have added to your life in the past, though studying for a degree doesn't guarantee that all areas of your life will be instantly satisfied once you get It. That's why in this article I will discuss some things that college doesn't bring you, things which you'll have to learn through painful trial and error or other methods that are more efficient.
People look at what you've done, not what you studied
You might think that adding that +5yrs career to your curriculum will impress your soon to be employers as long as you put it on the table. Well, this might have been truth in the past, though not nowadays. In a world where results matter most than any other companies are more willing to pay for people that actually have done the job in the past, asking themselves why to pay something that studied how to do something If they can pay even less for someone that has actually done It. That's why college doesn't guarantee instant sucess when seeking your place in the laboral market, leaving you with only one alternative, not showcasing your potential as an employee through your scholar merits though through your past work, showcasing, If you work in a creative field, many proofs of your craft and if you don't just showing your accomplishments for other companies.
Basic Finances
Many careers might have taught you a lot information about a particular field, however, something that they don't even speak about is how to manage the money you earn, avoiding the mistakes that can lead you to debt and how to save your income for future emergencies. However, thanks to Internet you can find a lot of content about how to make the most of what you obtain for your services, with worthy advices like saving more than you spend, paying your debts as quick as possible, investing in yourself and putting your money in retirement funds. As obvious as all these phrases might sound, you'll need a lot of this knowledge to get a grip of your finances in the modern age.
Living life outside of work
Another one of the things that you're not taught in your practices is how to take pace with regards to how you approach your work and how to live a life that you can enjoy outside of yourwork. The only thing that most universities tell you is that you should spend the greatest amount of time in your office and that even seeing sunlight is a distraction from your main objective, your job. However, this can prove to be a destructive labour, making you burn out faster and make hell out of something that you can otherwise deeply enjoy like doing what you were trained for. That's why you should focus in being the boss of your time and working in an efficient, not tiresome manner.
I hope that with the information presented I could have given you some knowledge as to some of the things that a professional career might not have taught you in your trajectory as a student, elements that you'll face in your life whether you want It or not and that you'll have to figure out in your own so you can get the life you really want. thank you for your support and good luck!
