Deep Work Sessions
Using time to work efficiently
We all have moments where we seem to get into a rut of unproductivity, neglecting the time we should be spending in our work and becoming better and using the little amount of hours we have in a distracted state where we don't actually achieve something meaningful. The key word in this statement is distracted, as we let every factor at our disposal to become something that potentially shifts our attention towards something not meaningful, for example, our phone notifications, background noises, and even our own minds. That's why in this article I will talk about Deep Work Sessions, something you can implement to your life which, If you use It properly, will get you the results you want in the least amount of time, thus making yourself more efficient. Let's begin by describing what they are:
What Deep Work Sessions Are?
A Deep Work Session is an uninterrupted period of time you dedicate to a particular pursuit or discipline in an environment that is free of all possible distractions. This can be your office, your bedroom If you put your phone away and turn all notifications off and many other places where you can actually get work done without fidgeting and refocusing your attention in a hundred things at once. If you ask yourself what the ideal deep work session time is, I won't be able to respond to you as It fits to your current attention span and schedule, though I can guarantee you that It has an upper and a lower limit. It has been stated that for getting to a state of undistracted focus while overlooking the time spent preparing, you should spend at least 1 hour in a deep work session, with an upper limit of 4 hours, after which the mind tends to surpass this plateau and becomes more prone to comitting mistakes and getting distracted.
How can I apply It?
There are a lot of things you can change, some from your vicinity, some from your routine and some even inside your own mind. That's why I'll present you with changes in these three areas yo can do to make It all optimal.
Take Away all Sources of Distractions
Phones, Weird Noises, Notifications, It all should go If you really want to stay focused while you perform your tasks. At the beginning you'll find yourself in a state of constant anxiety for not having something that has become an extension of your being away from you, though with enough time and grind, you'll be able to pay attention to what you're really trying to do.
Fit It Into your daily routine
A lot of people think that to get a lot done in the day you have to be the most part of It working, and this is far from the truth. You can get as much done in some focused 4 hours that you would do in even 12 hours while subject to all kinds of temptations and distractions. That's why you should find the perfect time for you to perform while not being interrupted by external forces. At the beginning I recommend you to employ 1 deep work session a day and then you can move as you wish to 2 or even 3 sessions.
Meditate
This sounds like a broken record, though It is absolutely true that an uninterrupted period of time dedicated to meditation can improve your capacity to concentrate in the long run, combating in this way the effects of years of unfocused consumption of information. I encourage you to begin this beautiful practice so you can become not only more proficient, though also more grateful for the things you have in life if you choose the right technique for It.
I hope that this article could have brought you some light as o how to become a more productive individual by presenting this concept known as Deep Work Sessions. I always encourage you to try to fit the time for growth into your daily routine in efficient time slots. Thank you for your support and good luck!
