The picture above is what they call "Deadly Nightshade" or known as "Belladonna" from the Family of Solanaceae. "Belladona" means "beautiful woman" and it used by Renaissance women to dilates their pupils. This plant is one of the poisonous plants that we can found in some areas of Asia and South Europe. This plant implies a dark history in Renaissance time. This plant produce dark berries and it is thought that was used to appear Juliet died in "Romeo and Juliet" of Shakespeare. This deadly nightshade was said to be the property of devil and it said that when someone eats its berry is punishable. This plant has two kinds of toxins that we can found in this plant which is the Atropine and Scopolamine. Deadly Nightshade's toxic can be fatal to humans and some animals. It is said that ingesting 2 to 4 berries of this plant can kill a child and ingesting 10 to 20 berries can kill adult. Even simply touching the leaves can irritates skin. Despite of being a poisonous plant, it is used to some medicinal benefits, those 2 toxins I've mentioned contain properties that can be used as medicine. Atropine and Scopolamine have almost the same uses, but it is said that Atropine is much effective than Scopolamine because it can regulates heart rate, can relax muscle spasms, can dilates pupils and it is used as Antidote for insecticides and chemical agents. While Scopolamine is used for reducing body secretions such as stomach acid. But there's a big CAUTION for this plant, don't ever think to use this on your own as this is one of the poisonous plant so if you see one of this plant, don't let your children and even your pets to be around on this plant.
