After several postponements and rescheduling, the swearing in of the new executives of the Students Union of the University of Ibadan finally took place today 13th of November, 2021. The formal ceremony which was meant to begin by 3:00PM could not, due to the non arrival of the Vice Chancellor of the University. This however kept different individuals, parents and pressmen and so on, that came to grace the event waiting for hours, hereby led to the delay of the event for over 4 hours.
The inauguration of the 53rd executive of the Students' Union started officially at exactly 7:40 PM at the Trenchard hall without the Vice Chancellor, this is because the VC was still on his way from Abuja. The ceremony commenced with a welcome address from the Dean of Students, Professor Adekeye Abiodun stating that the inauguration is held exactly 13days after that of the 13th substantive Vice Chancellor of the University.
The outgoing President, Comrade Akeju led administration was commended for performing really great with an extended tenure in the history of the University and for working tirelessly and effortlessly. His executive members were also recognized.
Comrade Akeju however gave his valedictory speech, he started by accounting that the tenure is almost 23 months. He further stated all that his administration was able to achieve. He further thanked Nnamdi Azikwe Hall of Residence, Faculty of Law and some special individuals that helped and stood by him.
The electoral committee for the election held on 9th of October, 2021 were recognized one by one and commended for the peaceful election conducted and their resilience towards it. The committee had representatives from both the Halls of Residence and Faculties. The Vice Chancellor duly represented by the Dean of Students, presented an award of participation and for conducting a fair election to all the electoral committee. Also awarded were the officers of the outgoing Students Representatives Council and the outgoing executive members of the Students' Union for the 2019/20 session.
The 13th Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode Adebowale, arrived at exactly 8:25 PM during the presentation of awards to the outgoing members of the executive of the students Union. The University anthem was sung with a standing ovation, which after he was duly recognized.
An oath was later taken by the 2020/21 session members of the executive, Students' Representatives Council University of Ibadan to their swearing in.
President Adewole Adeyinka came up immediately to give his inauguration speech as he commenced his administration
Lastly, the Vice Chancellor gave his address speech. He explained why he was late. He further stated amidst others that he will never proscribe the Union during his tenure and that he is ready to be challenged by the Students. The ceremony ended with the University anthem at exactly 9:20PM.
