Why Them?

I am really very sad and ashamed to write this article today.

Yesterday, my younger brother sent me two screenshots. Apparently, his close female friend runs a Facebook page and she told him that a guy has messaged and sent adult videos and pictures in this page. We came to know that, it’s not happening all on a sudden. She has been facing this issue from the beginning. Some boys send slangs and adult videos and it’s been a while. But why is this happening a lot? Is it happening because she is a girl? Any girl never sent anything disgusting to his page. But why boys have been doing that a lot lately? Let’s see what she has to say.

Our civil society and our social system is mostly patriarchal. The attitude of the people in this society is really old-fashioned and superstitious. We can easily see it from their belief, thoughts, writings and comments. In this society, men exploit and abuse women in various ways. There are no rules that men should use women for their contentment. There rules are made at will by some certain group of idiots and imposed on women which has spread all over the world now. And women are forced to accept that. From being immersed in various religious orthodoxy (most of them are wrong and modified) and superstitions, it exploits women and keeps them confined to the corner of the house.

This society is full of bigots and bigotry has become a daily practice here. So what is bigotry? Bigotry is the unreasonable and selfish attachment to a belief that differs from one’s own. And If a person is intolerant of other ideas, races or religions, we call that person a bigot. Like if a person thinks men are superior than women, he is a bigot because there’s no base of it. And this kind of lame practice is a part of bigotry as well.

According to the concept of superstition, women are just the content of enjoyment! For those who believe in bigoted, their thoughts are women better take care of the house, take care of the kids, take care of the husband. They oppress women for the welfare of the husband. They said, “Women, you wear branches, vermilion, bracelets and worship. You pray, fast, vow for the welfare of your husband “. Mainly it is the possession or expression of strong, unreasonable prejudices or opinions. Most of the women in our society have been left in the lurch, cherishing the various abominable practices created by patriarchal society.

This doesn’t happen all on a sudden. Not out of blue. A girl grows up seeing these and also she faces this from an early life. When a girl sets foot in adolescence, she is taught that enduring all kinds of unjust oppression is a natural feature of girls, her family separates her. Like if she has a brother, he gets better treatment from parents but a girl never gets the same. Yes, it’s changing now but still it doesn’t happen in the poor families and in many countries like mine. In Islamic history, it’s said that, there was an era called ‘Ai yame Jahelia” where people used to bury new born daughters alive and considered them at shame. But they never thought, without a woman, they can’t even get a son. Anyways, only when the proper development of her knowledge and intellect is about to spread in her adolescence does her family bind her to religious practices and superstitions. The resulting mental weakness makes the woman physically helpless. Most women, especially those who grow up in well-educated families, somehow understand that after marriage.” Husband”-the real meaning of the word, woman’s husband, lord, she has to stay in the house of the master and lord as a maid. In that case, the exact meaning of the word “Husband” comes out nicely. By blindly following the religious precepts and rules, the woman finds her heaven and meet her husband’s biological needs and serves her feet. Women are not independent in their own family or husband’s family! With or without the touch of the light of knowledge women have knelt down and turned themselves into consumables and play dolls for men.

My mom used to say that she was well educated compared to that time but my dad never let her to do a job. It was in 90’s. Rather she took care of my brother and sisters and also my uncles and aunts. Yes, she took care of my 4 aunts and 2 uncles and also my father maintained their education. She was held back and was confined the house. She has regrets in her heart but she never expressed them.

And here, I am not talking against men nor talking in favor of women. In other word, I am not a bigot and nor a feminist either. But I don’t believe in oppressing other no matter which gender the person is and also do not support those kind of statement, “My body, my choice or it’s her choice.” But at least I believe in an ideal society where both men and women can live a happy and satisfied life. But I am also aware of this sad reality that evil can’t be eased totally too.

Anyway, we should try to teach children, younger brothers, and sometimes even adult to lean manners and respect each other’s so that no one faces this kind of insecurity.
