Thanks to numerous positive development trends, tourism has become one of the most dynamic and propulsive industries, with multiple multiplier effects (in the period 1990-2000, international tourism increased by over 50%, while total revenues increased by almost 80%). This gives tourism a strong generating function in a wide range of activities, which is increasingly included in the priorities of economic development of many receptive countries and their individual parts. In 2016, 2,753,591 tourists visited Serbia, of which 46.54% were foreigners, which was 13.22% more than in the previous year. Most foreign tourists come from the Balkans.
Rural tourism in Serbia is treated as a priority within those types of tourism that are related to special interests (especially the development of ecco-tourist villages in hilly and mountainous areas, which offer a healthy environment, organic food, pleasant environment, active vacation in nature, ethnographic and other cultural and historical values). In the development of hilly and mountainous villages so far, agriculture (mainly cattle breeding and farming) has had a dominant, and often the only, economic function.
Also, spa, mountain and urban (city) tourism are developed in Serbia.
We are hoping to visit Serbia for the holiday season.
We have visited before in springtime,
but would like to play in the snow this time around.
Will there be any events to see over the holiday season this year ?
Thank you.
