Who is a Christian? When do you become a Christian?
These questions just popped up in my spirit and it's worthy of discussion. I'll be answering them here but I anticipate your answers in regards to the questions.
To the question of who a Christian is. Whenever we're asked of our religion, maybe in school, at work or whenever we're to fill anything official. Then we say we're Christians. But is this really true and accurate. As we have heard from time to time, Christianity is more of a way of life than a religion. Being a Christian is a culture. You know in cultures, there are things that are unique to them, maybe in things they do or something. They're are always unique. Therefore Christianity is a culture.
In answering who a Christian is, I'll say that a Christian is someone who acts like Jesus. In the bible, Christians were first called Christians in Antioch because of how they believed.
So, anybody that has not been converted or born again is not a Christian because being a Christian is more of a life than just a title. Anybody can bear the title of a Christian. A drunkard when asked his religion might still say that he's a Christian. We can now see that it's more of life than title. Therefore, if you're not yet born again, I can say that you're not a Christian by life, you're just a Christian by title, and a day is coming when being Christian by life will be the entry to eternal rest.
For you that is born again, you do not attain a full Christianhood at the point of salvation because you're not yet in the full stature of the Christ. Jesus Christ has been made by God the one we're to look up to on this journey. Therefore we're to continually look up to Him and learn of Him till we look like Him. This is to say that, no matter how meek an pious we might be, there's still more of Christ to look like. We should continue to pray and strive by the grace of God to look like Jesus.
The main goal is that Christ be formed in us. Because Christ is the model man we have look like, because He obeyed the Father throughout His stay on earth and ultimately fulfilled the reason for His existence on earth. Christ modelled what the new life looked like and how it should be lived.
Christianity is not a static religion with rules and regulations per say. It is a relationship with God such that God is the law giver, the law enforcement agent and the one that helps you to keep the laws. Therefore laws vary from Christians to Christians. Because the laws are now written in the table of our heart.
The peak of the commandment of God is to love. Which is expected of every Christian. Jesus even said that it's by this love that we'll be differentiated from the unbelievers.
I won't be going indepth with love because it's a different ball game entirely.
This is my sermon for today. Have a great Sunday. Thanks for staying through.
