What is the cost of “Joy” and “Contentment” in life? Well, virtual and non-virtual, people told me nothing in life is free! And that, you’ll never be contented! Oh really? Now I feel the danger in someone offering a piece of his mind, I really wonder the real costs of such offer!
Perhaps I should say that I am too lazy to fight. However, as I grow old I realized that not everything we fight for is worth the fight. And not everything we crave for is worth the take, so ending up choosing our battles and preserve the rest? Like material things I seek in the earlier days in my life become vague and seek something more that fills in the heart in the later days, which is why I am so glad to have children. Not because they are the most fulfilling aspect in my life but rather they put a goal in my heart. Taking care of them humbles me in every way. Taking into account that its not easy to raise them. And of course in the passage of time they grow and no matter how much careful you have in raising them, they always pick up some pieces by the road that influences them to either go astray or straight down the road. You cant help it but be ready for other people to criticize you on how you rear those children, this actually is not easy. Mothers solemnly shed tears and anxiety over this matters as if it was easy to just feed our children all the right things and concepts in life, wouldn’t life be magnificent? But lo! No, we can’t. They need to know what a vice is? What addiction is? How strong and weak they are in resisting the temptation? Sex? They need to know that too! Knowing what it is? Between becoming a lover of carnal pursuits or preserve until the right one comes? The consequences it bears along the way, they have to learn this too as it has fatal blow to one's over all health. Its prevalent now the spread of HIV, no one really knows who is infected and it will be just a shocking thing, one day you'll wake up having it?!!! In as much as we want to shield and protect, our children need to grow and learn, that they have to pick up themselves along the way and start over again. All we can do is pray and wait and be there to console their wailing heart. Most of the times we mothers take the blow. Now we see moms in the news trying to make a life of their own because they know, at the back of their mind, no matter what they do, they still get the criticism not the credit. So they might as well enjoy life since they’re still alive. Its really just a choice, either you end up martyr or loose end.
Now, I am faced with another criticism… See, it never ends! People will always have their say! Hayst! (sigh)… I left home for good this time and still our father there. There isn’t really much I can do about that as I am not the only sibling left. What is important is he is not homeless. He is just alone in the house our eldest sister built for our parents and sad no one wants to live in it. To sacrifice another decade? No, he can carry on what he wanted with the rest of his life. Mama needed someone by her side there is no vested material interest. While my father has all the means, he just doesn't have someone to spend it with, unfortunately.
